I was recently invited to ABC Radio in Australia to talk about the lives of new immigrants in Australia. The conversation naturally shifted to something close to my heart—the Mohalla Clinics & healthcare system in Delhi. I explained how Australia’s healthcare system could benefit from this model. It felt surreal, sitting in a studio on the other side of the world, talking about an idea that started on the streets of India.

But my journey to this moment didn’t begin in Australia. It began in Sonipat, Haryana, where I was born and raised before settling down in Faridabad. I completed my MBA from IMT Ghaziabad and built a promising corporate career as a business consultant in Gurgaon. On paper, I was doing well. But deep down, there was a void I couldn’t ignore.

That void was filled the day I saw the Anna Andolan on TV. I still remember it vividly—thousands of people demanding an end to corruption, demanding accountability. Something inside me lit up. Without thinking twice, I took the first Metro to Delhi and joined the protests. The energy, the unity, the shared sense of purpose—it gave me goosebumps. For the first time in my life, I felt like change was possible.

I had never been interested in politics. Like many others, I thought it was a space reserved for the corrupt and the powerful. But when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was formed in 2012, it felt different. It wasn’t just a political party; it was the embodiment of that movement, that dream of a better India. I was hooked.

Since then, I’ve been with AAP through every high and low, every thick and thin. I’ve handed out pamphlets, knocked on doors, led campaign teams, and fought elections in places like Goa, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. Each campaign has been a lesson in humility and resilience, but one memory stands out: Arvind Kejriwal’s Varanasi campaign.

I was determined to be part of it, but there were no reserved train tickets available. So, I got into a general compartment, used my shoes as a pillow, and slept on the floor. That night reminded me why I had joined this movement in the first place—to fight for the common man, no matter how uncomfortable or difficult it got.

In 2019, I moved to Australia. I thought my connection with AAP might fade, but it hasn’t. If anything, it has grown stronger. I’ve worked with the Australian government for the past three years, including a stint with the Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health. While there, I proposed integrating elements of the Mohalla Clinic model into their healthcare system. Even here, I carry AAP’s vision with me.

What inspires me most about AAP is its ability to rise against all odds. Traditional parties try to silence us, to shrink our space, but AAP stands firm. It is the only party that works tirelessly for people and still manages to maintain a surplus budget. That conviction and integrity fuel me every day.

AAP isn’t just a political party to me—it’s a movement, a lifeline, and a belief system. It’s the reason I feel grounded, connected, and hopeful. And as long as it exists, I’ll remain a die-hard volunteer of AAP.
