I know many families, including relatives, that have 6-10 kids, all of whom are wonderful people.
I am one of 6 kids.
Yet I can’t think of anything more selfish or shortsighted than having more than 2 kids.
Every problem we have is caused or magnified by: too many humans.
@Orangejoe82@billmaher who tells kids they are racist by proxy? I learned about slavery and first American genocide (and environmental degradation etc, you know, HISTORY)and felt sadness and an urge to not repeat these tragedies, not guilt.
@billmaher You misspelled Republican Bill. Or is it common sense to attempt a coup, suppress votes, mandate forced birth, and deny facts and science (global warming, vaccines)? This is both-sides-ism on steroids.
Happy 2023 everyone. "Electrify Everything" is the world's NY Resolution, along with "Get all Electricity from Wind, Solar, Hydro" (100% by 2035). Note-- even if the energy comes from fossil fuel power plants, it's still better than small on-site engines (for car, mower, etc).
@AlexanderKurucz@AukeHoekstra huh? the 50% increase in atmospheric CO2 since ~1750 is not a political problem, it's a physical fact that is causing global warming. Nuclear was the go-to solution in 1970, now wind and solar and batteries (all more efficient and less costly every year) are the answer.
Biggest Loser (Whiner). Will the R fever break, finally? I've never understood the attraction, maybe getting beat over the head with loss after loss will wake people up?? First time incumbent Prez has not lost a single Senator in a mid term since... 1934!
@CarbonActionNow google Cook Inlet Belugas, lots of current research, population declining and range shrinking, losing matriarchs = losing cultural knowledge
@luisbaram yes there were ice ages in the past - does not disprove global warming... in fact the "ice age 180ppm / warm interglacial 280 ppm" pattern was "stable" for 4+ million years, until we dug up long sequestered carbon (coal oil gas) and added CO2 to the atmosphere. Now 420 = warming.
@luisbaram it appears you lack basic understanding... a few thousand years ago (ice age) CO2 was around 180pmm. During warm interglacials CO2 was around 280 ppm. Natural stable cycle. Now CO2 is around 420ppm *purely due to adding carbon by burning fossil fuels* = warming (duh).
@BellaLucyBee@nhannahjones It's not either-or. This reminds me of the person pulled over for speeding telling the cop "why don't you go arrest a REAL criminal?". Are we not capable of showing understanding if not compassion to both (all)?
In my view #population growth is an ecologically devastating tool used by neo-liberal economics to drive the short sighted, poorly defined concept of "growth" to which they've attached their business plans.
I know of no other org. so committed to calling it out.
@Eclectic627 This isn't opinion or rocket science, it's simple quantifiable physical science, predictable (and predicted), with projections from 30+ years ago tracking quite accurately with actual measurements, and predictions from 100+ years ago being supported with real world data.
@Eclectic627 What part of "CO2 cycled between ~180ppm (ice age) and ~280ppm (warm interglacial) for 4+ million years until ~1750, when humans started to dig up and burn long-sequestered fossil carbon fuels (coal oil gas) and adding "new" carbon, resulting in CO2 at 420ppm = warming"?
@RonFilipkowski And why might they not "trust the system"? Hmm, could it be that Kirk and his ilk have spent the last 6+ years seeding doubt? What a bunch of sore losers.
