@lovyPrimzy1 Great story! As a side note, you should read the price on the back of each card and see how much the prices have increased from oldest to newest. That's inflation!
Wolfers: For nine out of the last 10 presidencies, if you’d said, “How much should we blame the president for what’s going on with the economy right now?” I would have said that the president is just one factor among many.
That’s what I would have said nine out of 10 times. This is the 10th time.
There’s literally no question about the cause of the current oil price spike. It is that we decided to go to war in Iran on an open-ended, ill-defined mission, and we’re not quite sure what to do. The Iranians took over the Strait of Hormuz, and now the global economy is substantially fractured and global energy markets are in disarray. There’s no question about what caused that. We know that because we actually saw things get a little bit better in June during the ceasefire, but those happy days are behind us.
There’s also no question that tariffs are a complete own goal. They’ve led to higher prices paid by Americans. And that, I think, explains why, if you look at the United States compared to our peers in the G7—think of these as other economies that are kind of like, if the U.S. economy had mates, this is who they’d be—comparable large industrialized economies, the United States right now has higher inflation than any of them. We’re number one, but it’s not one of those good number ones.
And let me just add: it really does hurt my heart because we know how not to screw things up. Any economics textbook, anyone who’s taken introductory economics, would know that there are large economic costs to going to war. They would know that starting a global trade war in a chaotic and incoherent fashion is all downside and no upside.
Shaquille O'Neal says he thought his bank manager was setting him up after learning $300,000 was taken from his first $1,000,000: “Who the fuck is FICA”
“The first money I got, even before I got drafted, was a card signing deal. It was a million dollars. So I said, ‘I gotta go get the black on black 500 sitting on them 19-inch hammers”
“I had no negotiating skills. I go in there, ‘How much? Move the seat back a couple inches. Call me.’ I get home. My dad was like, ‘That's nice. Where's mine?’”
“I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but I know a million minus $150,000... shit, I got $850,000 left. He gets the same joint I got. We get home, my mom’s like, ‘Where's mine at?’”
“She don't want the big one. She wants the little one. So I got $700,000 left. Hers cost $100,000. I got $600,000 left”
“I went to the jewelry shop, I bought some Allen Iversons. I bought a dookie rope chain. I bought a nugget chain. I bought a two-finger ring. I got a high rise in San Antonio, paid that off for the year”
“Next couple of days, the bank manager called me. ‘Shaq, I need you to come to the bank.’ When I came to the bank, he said, ‘Look, man, I don't want you to be like everybody else’”
“He showed me. I was like, ‘Yeah, I did this, I did this, I did this.’ Then I was like, ‘Who the fuck is FICA’”
“FICA had took like $300,000. Like, ‘No. I don't know FICA. I don't know FICA. You trying to set me up.’ He said, ‘No, man. FICA is the money that the government takes out’”
“I had no idea. I didn't know nothing about that. So I was like, I really do have to start being smart”
@cptdankkk That's not their job to advise you on that money. You're looking for a financial or wealth advisor that will give you that advice. Give me a call.
@Sammoneytalks I have some clients that work in competive fields. A layoff could turn into a 6 to 8 month job search easily, all while still needing to maintain their household or support family. Some are older workers as well and age discrimination is at times a real thing in hiring.
@clbradfish Whole life insurance is not an investment. It's insurance. Your thesis is like saying car insurance is the worst investment ever. Also, not an investment. It's insurance.
@esj2525 Kind of like how when you press the pedal in your car you don't instantly go from 0 to 60. It takes time for the flow through and that will happen over a period of time.
