it's not if brutal you know what you're doing.
problem is everyone is doing absolutely the same thing. the skill level also needs to be at a certain level as well.
posting decent illustrations of your OC's and that's it is the absolute bottom rung where the vast majority of small artists are.
the sloppiest of slop.
if you're creative enough to make an original art style with AI you're creative enough to do it by hand.
and if you're that creative you'll quickly realize the creative ceiling that AI has. tiny details to nit pick over are just playing roulette with the generator. you end up wasting more time than if you did it by hand.
@jpsklr exactly. when a person has a bad experience with an artist they commission, they attribute that to all artists and just give up on it, move to AI, and call it a day.
i have seen ones where you get a little slider with how much ai you do or dont want to add to the conversion.
put it on 0 and you get your image properly made into pixels. slide it towards 100 and you get.... something
but i can see why a solo dev or a small team would use it to speed up the process. if you've made by hand front/back/side animations, plugging it into a machine to get the 30/45/60/etc angles is a massive time save.
i guess thats up to the individual if they want to use it out of principle or not at that point.
that's one way of looking at it. especially when you would have commissioned someone for double or low triple digits.
but artists who charge 4-5 figures aren't getting replaced by AI since it's a different kind of clientele.
those artists have also the reputation worthy of their price point
i've had good experiences, luckily.
i've also done (and still do) contract work, and at least make it a priority to keep clients informed of whats going on.
i've had projects where the timeline is 2 weeks, it ends up going to 3, but communication is clear every step and they're more than happy with everything despite the fact.
people are reasonable and understanding if you provide them the same curtesy.
but ghosting and dragging projects along for months and months, and then providing crap at the end is just unacceptable.
"look at the ai they used HERE, and HERE, and HERE!!!!!!"
while they scribbled a million red circles over areas that were drawn the most normal way. assuming they're wrong.
could also be an artist using a bad AI image as a ref, so while they draw it correctly it still turns out wrong
