@agingdoc1 a lower Hb could be a function of a range of things and to simply base lower Hb with an increase in mortality risk is a good example of ignoring many other factors. Additionally, you would measure plasma ferritin if classifying anaemia - a good example of poor science
@agingdoc1 Interesting paper that partially supports the work of Pollock. Although the activity levels are matched the type of activity isn’t, an important aspect related to fibre recruitment patterns
@timspector That’s quite an interpretation of those results. The overall conclusion is that it’s all three together (CRP, LDL cholesterol and lipoprotein a). The risks from each variable have a reasonably high overlap,
@Dan_Nash94 Given that these data are based on one subject why are the error bars much wider with On and Adidas compared to ASICS? Presumably you tested on separate days and in random order for each shoe?
@PGreenhaff No surprise regarding sumo wrestling, it’s only recently a duty of care to these athletes post- retirement has been considered. Surprised about handball and volleyball
Still on the look out for 2 PhD students to join us in October this year! Project 1: Exploring the potential of drug repurposing to enhance muscle mass and function in ageing. https://t.co/QpG9vFW59R Supervised by Prof Phil Atherton.
Here's the footage before they covered her up. I think it's fair to say her reactions to what he was saying were perfectly fair and not over the top, but it seems we can't have anyone rolling their eyes when the glorious leader is talking.
Join us on 4th June for a webinar with @BlairH_PhD on her recently published research on the strength, power and aerobic capacity of transgender athletes.
We look forward to seeing partners from across the sport sector & any policymakers in this space.

@Gommaar depends on how you are expressing VO2max, the absolute VO2 of these athletes is 4.6 L/min. if you had a typical 5000 m athlete (body mass 60 kg) their VO2 max would be 77 ml/kg/min, instead for your athletes they had a mass of 86kg!
@westcountryjury @carolvorders Anaesthetic associates are not "gas fitters" they're trained health professionals who, like anaethetists, have to continue training after initially qualifying. If we stop AA's from practising (under the supervision of a consultant) the waiting lists only get longer.
