Someone I know closely, fought a long drawn out battle in Court for divorce from her physically abusive husband. He beat her black and blue. She tolerated it till one day she found him close to sexually abusing their 4 year old daughter.
That was her last straw.
She filed for divorce.
He delayed it for years; and on one of the final hearings, he slapped her across her face in Court; her eardrum tore and she lost consciousness for a while.

Her lawyer advised against filing a case for assault because they felt this was a delaying tactic and more time and money wasted in Court.

His full and final settlement - she didnt ask anything for herself

Was 10 Lakh for ‘higher’ education for 2 daughters.

She was financially independent and paid for her legal fee herself.
Lawyer took a percentage of the settlement which means she was left with less than the money that was handed out.

The legal system and going through it is the greatest punishment.

If you are lucky you don’t have to step foot in 3 places

Upma was served in a breakfast every morning in a hostel with a capacity of 100 people. Out of those 100 people, 80 people used to complain every day that different items should be made instead of upma.
But, the other 20 people were happy to eat upma. The remaining 80 people wanted to cook something other than upma.

The hostel warden voting method was proposed as some decision had to be reached in this chaotic situation.

According to this, whichever tiffin gets the most votes, that tiffin will be cooked that day.*

20 students who wanted Upma cast their vote accurately. The remaining 80 people cast their vote as follows.

So, as per the voting results, Upma gets the highest number of votes, and again the same is served every day.

This young man from my constituency, Shaikh Hassan Khan, became the first Keralite (and perhaps the first Indian) to climb the highest peaks of 7 continents on Earth (what he calls his “7 Summits Expedition”). He achieved this feat after climbing Mount Kosciusko, the highest peak in Australia, on 10th November 2024 at 3PM. To celebrate this moment, he hoisted the Indian National Flag there, as he had on every other continent, including Antartica (in pic).

He had already reached the summits of Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro,Mount Denali, Mount Elbrus, Mount Vinson, and Mount Aconcagua. He also summited Ojos del Salado, the highest active volcano on Earth.

He says he undertook this “7 summits expedition” to spread awareness about climate change and to spread the message of world peace. I helped recommend him for a couple of visas; the rest is entirely his own extraordinary initiative. Well done, Shaikh Hassan! Your MP is proud of you. So should the rest of the country be!

It’s a wedding reception. The bride’s favorite cousin… whom she hasn’t met in many years… is on stage giving her the gift he’s brought. She wants to hang on to the moment. She wants to savour it. She makes a big scene… getting all emotional and insisting she wears the jewellery he’s gifted her, right there on the stage. She wants him to tie the anklets he’s got for her. All this plays out unhurriedly, much to the restless irritation of everyone waiting behind in the queue to handover their gifts, get photos clicked and ‘mark their attendance.’ Much to the awkward embarrassment of the cousin himself. The impatience of the queue grows… he becomes more aware of it. There’s tension in the air. The bride couldn’t care less. She insists.

He gives in, helplessly. And then the director switches to 48 frames per second. Slowing down the moment even further. She relishes it… slowly feeling every beat. Her infectious affection gets to him. He relaxes. And he logs in too. Feeling every bit as emotionally overwhelmed as her. Slowly, the queue and the crowd’s restlessness dissipates. They log in too. Everyone has a shared experience… feeling the power of the moment.

It felt so meta on so many levels. It’s as if the film tells us to push past the restlessness, impatience and rushed nature of our lives. Only then can beauty be relished. Only then can the power of love and everything beautiful in this world be savoured. And it also felt like the filmmaker was affectionately testing his audience. Teasing us if we can push past the restlessness. If you can’t, you might want to disembark from the bus and stop the ride that is this film, at that very point. But if you can…. there’s infinite beauty in the film to be felt and relished. I savoured every bit of it. All the while shedding copious amounts of alkaline liquid from my eyes. Thank you Prem and the team. ♥️♥️
