The Business Facilitation Act of 2023 codifies the Executive Order 001 of 2017 and it amends 21 different existing laws in the country. The major amendment is in relation to CAMA 2020. This thread would highlight some of the key amendments made to CAMA 2020 by this new Act.

I formally assumed office yesterday as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, following a handover from my predecessor, Mr. Wale Edun. I sincerely appreciate him for his service to our country and the foundation he has laid.

Nigeria is at a critical juncture. Having taken important steps to stabilise the economy, our immediate task is to consolidate these gains, deepen ongoing reforms, and ensure they translate into tangible benefits for all Nigerians.

Our strategic priorities include:

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 - creating a predictable and investor-friendly environment anchored on policy coherence, consistency, and clarity.

𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 & 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - ensuring transparent and prudent management of public resources.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐱𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - harmonising revenue administration, broadening the tax base, reducing the burden on vulnerable population, and supporting economic growth.

𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 (𝐏𝐏𝐏𝐏) - deepening collaboration with the private sector and other key stakeholders for data-driven policy design, co-implementation, and feedback for continuous improvement.

Good policy design alone is not enough, success will be defined by execution. We are committed to disciplined implementation, accountability, and measurable results.

I look forward to working with colleagues across government, the private sector, and all Nigerians as we move from reform to result, accelerate growth and build a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous economy.

I was at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, to represent a client in 2025 in a contentious banking matter. Upon getting to court that day, an old lawyer in his 60s, who, of course, sat at the inner bar waved at me and gestured for me to come forward.

When I got to him, he introduced himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria who practices in Abuja and that his office is located at Wuse. He informed me that he took a late flight from Abuja to lagos the previous day and felt tired upon getting to court. He further informed me that he cherished how I appeared neat and ready for the business of the day and how I resembled one of his biological sons in the UK.

I saw it as a great honour to be recognized and appreciated amidst all young wigs in the court that day by the learned Silk until he said: "Muhammed, my mind is telling me you are brilliant chap and your future will be bright in law practice. Meanwhile, I shall be calling my case out of turn. Appear with me. Write your full name on my diary, please. "

I complied and appeared with him on that day. After he was through with his matter, he gave me one of his phone contacts and wrote my account details boldly in his diary, promising me an appearance fee before the end of that day.

Since March 2025 till date, the phone contact has been unreachable, and I have received nothing as the appearance fee as promised. Don't tell me the learned Silk scammed me ooo. 😢 😢 😢 I don't want to believe that ejohh!! Learned Silk Lati Abuja? ko possible 😢 😭!!!
