Holding ether but never used it?
Try it out, check out Crypto March Madness: Win DAI With The ETH Madness NCAA Bracket Challenge. https://t.co/YnFg2KMVZ9
I like that you can buy an @AxieInfinity digital collectible with Ether, Dai, Loom, or even w/ USD using a credit card
In the Ethereum economy, any asset can compete as a money. The goal is to get more users into the crypto economy in the first place
I think Lightning is cool, but will still have poor UX because BTC doesn't have a stablecoin
The BTC community has been conditioned to hold, hold, hold. Everyone remembers the Bitcoin Pizza. Who wants to spend their digital gold?
Dai in a L2 payment channel? Different story
I think we'll see the Augur/Veil two-step play out again & again:
Step 1: A permissionless financial protocol is created, but it's hard to use (Innovator stage)
Step 2: A centralized entity builds a UX on the protocol, smoothing edges & making it useful (Early Adopter stage)
@mdudas@RyanSAdams To the extent Consensys matters, it’s better for them to find a sustainable business model. Sounds like they’re changing into a more traditional VC firm
People forget that Dai is basically just volatility stabilized Ether
Every Dai is backed by about $2.5 worth of Eth
Dai demand = Eth demand
Maker has quietly turned Ether into a price stable currency
And it's about to be available for mainstream on Coinbase
Prime example of how even sophisticated investors are struggling to value smart contract platforms beyond basic metrics.
When you dig deeper into the fundamentals that measure #ethereum economic activity (e.g. $ value of collateral locked in SCs)—a different picture emerges.
@twobitidiot@CryptoHayes@cz_binance Would have been if ETH had declined by itself without a massive BTC collapse. Fact is - this whole bear market is due to Bitcoin being the ultimate shitcoin and good projects can’t escape its damage
@danheld@RyanSAdams@mseiler1 Fees are falling. Retail transactions down 80% this year. No one uses it except as get rich quick scheme. No signs at all user fees can pay for mining - so 21m cap is just unverifiable marketing claim
@danheld@RyanSAdams@mseiler1 Lol - I’m waiting - $4m worth of bitcoins printed every day and only $50k user fees- got a long way to go and BTC has no use cases and trying to push people onto lightning because they cant sustain high fees without people leaving
@danheld@RyanSAdams@mseiler1 Problem is that while it’s easy to code a cap, bitcoin is nowhere close to showing it has the incentives in place to maintain security when issuance goes to zero. The 21m cap is just shitcoin marketing
