Disagree with this as well. Though remote assistance is definitely used and still important for them, I've heard their unit economics in the deployed cities are quite good and I wouldn't be surprised if they are already profitable in SF or AZ considering operating costs only, which includes remote assistance. At 200k rides per week, the remote assistance rate naturally has to be relatively low unless they have an enormous remote assistance team, which I know they do not.

@PeterDiamandis Please stop fear mongering. There is nothing wrong with sugar aside from the obesogenic factors like the fact that it is delicious and easy to consume a lot of. But it is absolutely not poison.

I disagree that regulatory approval is the primary bottleneck. Especially given Elon and Trump's relationship now, if that really were the only thing remaining it would have been resolved. Plus multiple permits have already been given years ago to Waymo, Cruise, etc.

I think the real questions are: 1) how long does it take for Tesla to get to the same reliability levels as Waymo? 2) will the public/regulating agencies accept lower reliability levels?

If 1) is fast, Tesla will dominate. If the answer to 2) is yes, Tesla will also dominate. If the answer is "slow" and "no", which is my personal feeling, than Waymo will continue to grow and build a lead.

@congressdj @SawyerMerritt @Tesla I think the key point is that "they just happen to have drivers in them". If they are indeed fully autonomous and as reliable as implied, why do they not offer robotaxis yet?

How are kids who need remedial math being admitted to Harvard? In some exceptional circumstances maybe, but enough to justify a class for it seems dubious.

This week, a math professor at MIT told me that incoming students are, on average, noticeably worse at math than they used to be.

Harvard, of course, just added a remedial math class, Math MA5, "aimed at rectifying a lack of foundational algebra skills among students".

@amasad @amasad what would you recommend people use to develop basic web applications instead? A lot of the AIs recommend React + NextJS tech stacks I assume because it's popular on the internet, and once the project starts it's easy to get locked in.
