I’ve been studying generative poetry ahead of this launch, and it turns out it’s really hard!

So I’ve been writing some poetry of my own and built a little generative poetry studio to experiment with how words are arranged on a page.

The project starts with twenty poems I’ve written. A script uses nine different stroke fonts to generate unique compositions, changing the spacing, scale, and placement of words. It can preserve the original poem, rearrange phrases, or shuffle individual words, while making sure every word appears exactly once.

Each composition can be recreated, refined, and exported as pen paths for drawing with the HandWriter®.

I’m interested in how the arrangement of words changes the way we read a poem, giving the same words a different rhythm and emphasis each time.

Can you guess who this poem is about?

Tonight is the Peter Beyls New Work opening at the Bantam Tools Machine Arts Gallery in Peekskill New York. I interviewed Peter this week and the article is live on our website. Check it out! https://t.co/WpPhxUk6dn

[bre @bre]

1974 → 1985 → 2025.

I have Peter Beyls work in my collection spanning more than 50 years, and one of the things I love about putting these pieces next to each other is realizing that Peter isn't a historical computer artist. He's a computer artist who has a history.

He has a show of new work coming October 2 to the Bantam Tools Machine Arts Gallery.

[Bantam Tools @bantamtools]

Peter Beyls returns to the Machine Arts Gallery this October with an exhibition of entirely new work, including a new series of generative portraits.

Opening Friday, Oct. 2, 6–8 PM in Peekskill. Free slushies.

Vera Molnar’s Transformations, étanche (2010) revisits the catalogue from her first solo exhibition in 1976, an early computer-art sequence moving from geometric order toward disorder. A beautiful artifact of plotter art, publishing, and algorithmic thinking. https://t.co/VMKwcmtVxy

Mark Wilson, one of the original American Algorists and a key figure in early digital art, is making new work again. For the first time since the early 1990s, he has returned to the pen plotter: five new drawings and 20+ prints. A rare opportunity to encounter a major early voice in digital art not as history, but in the present tense. Opening Friday 4 September, at the Bantam Tools Machine Arts Gallery, Peekskill. Thanks @bre & @bantamtools !
