this is happening across a ton of machines after an upgrade to 24h2.

something within 24h2 is causing drive enumeration when a download is started in edge and chrome.

could it be smb hardening? i don't know.

thought it could be hung handles, no indication.

edge and chrome downloads keep hanging for 1-2 minutes.

cannot reproduce for the life of me... what the...

randomly open an excel file through an smb drive...

download hangs...

digging into wpr and proc mon shows io timeouts.

closing an opened file from within an smb drive resolves the issue.

opening a file within an smb drive starts the issue again.

thought this was related to filter managers/minifilters but delays shown in wpr are minimal.

digging into procmon and wpr show that smb drive is being enumated when a download starts.

drives attempts to be enumerated twice before finally give up.

both enumation attempts lasting 35-61 seconds each time.
