How many of you know what Cruella Braverman's Public Order Bill contains?
It's frankly unbelievable: legislation you might expect in Russia, Iran or Egypt. Here's a summary from my column today:
🚨 Experts warn Select Committee that First Past risks an election that is "simply indefensible".
Speaking to the @CommonsHCLG, Professors Toby James, Maria Sobolewska and Alan Renwick say government should now be looking seriously at electoral reform.
This 2011 tweet by Farage thanking Orban for helping 'us' undermine the EU hasn't aged well.
It shows that for over 15 years Farage has been colluding with Orban and Russia to weaken the EU.
(I deleted my earlier version of this post because I saw Reform UK in Farage's profile in the screenshot. But X shows the current account name, not the original)
💥 Professor Vernon Bogdanor writes for @FinancialTimes:
"An electoral system should do two things: ensure that the majority rules and that significant minorities are adequately represented.
First Past the Post achieves neither."

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier says that the United States is destroying the world order:
"But there is also the fact that our most important partner, the United States, has broken with the values that it helped to establish and, above all, has played a decisive role in shaping over decades"
"In my opinion, we have now moved beyond the stage where we can lament the lack of respect for international law or the erosion of the international order; we are far beyond that, I believe"
"Both disrespect and erosion are well advanced. I believe that, and I want to emphasise it a little"
"Today, the aim is to prevent the world from turning into a den of thieves, where the most unscrupulous take what they want"
"Where regions and entire countries are treated as property rather than major powers"
"Where even medium-sized states, such as ours, are being pushed to the margins of history, and where smaller and weaker states are left completely unprotected"
A woman was reversing in Asda car park today and she almost bumped into my trolley so she said "sorry". I said "that's okay", but my American friends are saying the correct response would have been to shoot her in the head three times and claim I acted in self-defence 🤷♀️
‘I have not a political reason but a highly personal reason [for speaking out]. I do not want to see my school bully become prime minister’
Huge kudos to @PeterEttedgui. This is a hugely powerful & sobering interview.
Billionaires shouldn't be able to buy a bigger voice in politics. Add your name to @electoralreform call to put a cap on how much they can donate in the #ElectionsBill https://t.co/cDMoaUFDhP
Just because Farage is mates and allies with Nathan Gill doesn't mean he was involved in Russian Bribery.
Just because Gill and Farage both voted regularly in favour of Russia as MEPs, it still doesn't mean he was involved.
Just because Farage has long praised Putin and appeared regularly on Russia Today, it still doesn't mean he was necessarily involved.
Just because Farage has unexplained money he used to buy a house in Clacton, still doesn't mean he was necessarily actually involved.
But, it all sure as hell makes him worth investigating.
Congratulations, Shabana!
You've unlocked the much coveted Tommy Robinson endorsement!
As he notes, you're shifting the political conversation in the direction of the far right.
You must be so proud!
What an amazing achievement for a Labour politician!
The irony meter just broke.
The BBC isn't perfect, but it's one of the few things standing between our British values and a Trump-style takeover of our politics.
Bloody immigrants coming here and…oh. Saving our lives. What an absolute hero.
Hoping he gets better as soon as possible so he can receive the thanks he so clearly deserves.
@realdonesteban@KurtSchlichter@BobELee7 You mean when Southern USA still had segregated schools, and segregated eating establishments ? That western culture ?
Stephen Kinnock explains the Dublin agreement where the UK could send asylum seekers back to the first country they stepped into the EU, when we were members of the EU
With Brexit, when we left the EU, we were no longer able to do that
Fiona Bruce interjects and says we didn't use the Dublin agreement to do that very often, and she's right
Because the Dublin agreement served as a deterrent
As soon as we left the EU, the deterrent was gone, and we were longer able to use it
That's also why Farage's Brexit Boats Of Asylum Seekers shot up after Brexit because they knew the UK was outside of the EU, and couldn't apply the Dublin agreement to return people
NEW: Police knew a Kremlin spy ring recruited former leader of Reform Wales at least 3 years ago.
So why was Nathan Gill not charged till Feb this year?
Pls read part 2 of @thenerve_news special investigation into Nathan Gill. And please share!

I welcome the news that the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has lost her appeal and failed to block the legal challenge to the proscription of Palestine Action.
The Judicial Review will now go ahead on 25-27 November, with two additional grounds to challenge the ban’s legality.
This is a huge win for civil liberties and our right to protest.
We must continue to defend our rights against Keir Starmer’s authoritarian Labour government.
There are dozens of safe seats in the UK that have been held by the same party for 100+ years.
There are millions of voters who've never had the representation they asked for.
We can keep waiting. Or we can change our Victorian voting system. What do you prefer?
