After firing more than 100 sitting immigration judges, the Justice Department is now advertising to hire so-called "deportation judges" in their place. https://t.co/2ODfyEJjl7
An absolute disaster of a process! The wake of the 2013 closures has left me skeptical that “modernization” will be carried out in a timely or responsible manner.
A state-appointed board created many of these conditions, & a mayor-appointed board kicked the can down the road…🤬
1. A Modernization plan, even one that closes schools, is understandable. You might support it.
*This* plan is really bad. There is an aggressive lack of details and accountability that suggests the #phled team is going to make this up as they go.
Argue about financial necessity all you want:
- Once again, closures will disproportionately impact areas w/ highest concentrations of poverty.
- The HS closures take away quality options in these areas.
- Schools will be reopened in these areas as gentrifiers’ children grow.
Despite two recesses forced by protests led by City Council members, the Philadelphia Board of Education voted 6-3 to pass a $3 billion facilities plan that would close 17 city schools.

For as long as Black people have lived in this country, our right to vote & power to decide who leads have been attacked. Today’s SCOTUS decision is a disgrace. Every voter deserves a fair chance to elect people who can be held accountable to meeting their needs & fixing their problems. That includes Black voters. We haven’t just come this far by faith alone. We have come this far by fighting for #votingrights. This isn’t over! @civilrightsorg
Fran Lebowitz: “The thing that makes New Yorkers the angriest about Trump is other people think he’s a New Yorker. New Yorkers don’t think that, we never thought that. He never wins New York. He never even comes here because he’s so hated. He’s afraid of New York, as he should be”
