Congratulations to the second winner of the FMS/Penaz Award presented: David Moloney!
He presented his work “Continuous positive airway pressure acutely reduces supine BP and atrial natriuretic peptide in autonomic failure patients with supine hypertension” during #AAS2025
If anyone is at the @AHAScience meeting in Baltimore, check out our poster on the effects of CPAP on BP and ANP in autonomic failure. I’ll also be presenting at the Rapid Fire Cases at 1330 on inpatient hypertension and drug-drug interactions!
If anyone’s bopping around the
#BIHS2021, we have a poster at P-12 for your perusal! I’ll be speaking at the Poster Storm later on this evening too! @tilda_tcd @ProfOrtuno @RoseAnnekenny1
Really excited to log in for our second SJH FASU Journal Club with a talk from international expert Prof Gert van Dijk! @ProfOrtuno @RoseAnnekenny1@TCDGerontology@stjamesdublin
Key findings were:
- there was poor longitudinal stability of orthostatic haemodynamic patterns
- these patterns are longitudinally dynamic, and improvements after 4 years are possible
Our new @tilda_tcd@TCDGerontology study shows that a 'wish to die' in older people confers a 2-fold higher risk of cardiovascular mortality during the next 9 years, even after excluding those with depression/anxiety.

Had a great time at the @stjamesdublin FASU Journal Club today with brilliant talks from international experts, Prof Michele Brignole and Prof Richard Sutton on their recent research on reflex syncope @RoseAnnekenny1 @ProfOrtuno @TCDGerontology. And a lovely view to boot!
Last day to check out my poster at #longitudinal21 on the longitudinal follow up of eight orthostatic blood pressure patterns in @tilda_tcd
