Unequivocally condemn the anti-women video released recently by a cleric who is seen propagating a patently misogynistic message against women’s education.He equates sending girls to school with teaching them “obscenity” including dancing. Wrong on so many levels, including the conflation of education with purported immorality. This is not something that should even be open to either debate or trivialisation. Pakistan’s women are empirically its best story, and they continue to excel in every field that opportunity lets them. Yet, when approximately 12 million girls are outside school, or more, this deliberate vulgarisation of girls’ education is both dangerous and inflammatory, and must be immediately countered by the state as against the principles of policy enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan. No impunity for such narratives.

Today we had an internal hybrid first meeting of the Standing Committee on Climate Change & Environmental Coordination of the Senate to set the agenda for the year. Obviously top of the list was enhancing predictability and resilience for extreme weather such as the incoming monsoon, already wreaking havoc in Balochistan, but also many other items including the clean air plan, climate financing, the energy transition, adaptation stocktake and the need to build a coalition against single use plastics. Thank you to all members online and otherwise for giving your input for the planning calendar.

Current global trends are very worrying. While the human race is striving to reach Mars our own planet is turning red with overheating and overconsumption. If the current trajectory of water, food, and plastics consumption contines, many of your children may end up in hospitals due to smog and other climate-related disasters.
