@PPetesStache@dead_baseball if that were the case then why don't draftees out of college immediately get put on AA and AAA rosters? or even make the AAA roster at the beginning of the next season?
@realbibicus@tipping_pitches@bwags after looking it up, i was wrong. MLB does still have the antitrust exemption BUT a ruling in 1998 means that exemption doesn't apply to labor disputes.
so they can sue on antitrust grounds but good luck getting SCOTUS to rule in favor of labor and not the owners
@StephenIgoe i know it's D3 but this is a guy with a 1.244 OPS, doesn't strike out a lot, decent speed (12 for 12 on SB) and has pitching experience. great pick up
@ECUJungle@ryancoletd@StephenIgoe i'd be interested to find out if his errors were mostly fielding errors or throwing errors. given that he was a D3 3B/SS, if he's solid with the glove his arm may be better suited for 2B or LF and he's 6'2 so learning 1B and being a true utility guy isn't out of the question
@realbibicus@tipping_pitches@bwags MLB has an antitrust exemption, so no lawsuits.
the owners are actively sabotaging the collective bargaining process to force a lockout and banking on the fans blaming the players when it happens.
all we can do is hope the public doesn't fall for it
@JeffStanek1@VintageINDYCard the MLB alters uniforms for jackie robinson day and some teams wear Negro League throwbacks. there are franchises with specific jerseys for hispanic heritage month. pride promotions serve the same purpose: to acknowledge people in that community
@WallOfStafford@vanillaopinions yep. one office job i had for a couple years had the staff as a whole choose between having MLK Day off or Juneteenth. we couldn't have both
@EverymanSmith@scantierrr i would wager that the pivot happened at different times for different industries but in all of them it happened when private equity acquisitions spiked in those sectors
@BJSymons nobody likes that players/schools can just run to the local judge to get their way but chambliss did so to get a medical redshirt that he actually should have gotten. he didn't throw ethics out the window like tech/sorsby
@HawaiiBro17@CaseyMattox_ using your logic verbatim: if they're going to allow something like mother's night, with pink gear, you can't then turn around and discriminate against employees who choose to write timothy 2:11 on their hats.
would you agree with your statement then?
@HawaiiBro17@CaseyMattox_ it could be any other promotional night and any other promotional gear and the result would be the same bc
1: it's in the CBA that written messages on gear aren't permitted
2: they had the option to wear regular gear instead
@Doctor_BLewin@MetamateDaz you're in a better mindset in the morning bc you just have to roll out of bed and shower before work instead of dealing with a commute and you're more productive later in the day bc it's much easier to power through that last hour without the trip home distracting you
@Doctor_BLewin@MetamateDaz the same, or more. and that work is much more productive. i can create my own daily agenda to follow for non-urgent tasks and complete them in the order that works best for me rather than being micromanaged into any arbitrary order bc my boss gets stir crazy in the office
@bestpartofwaki1@asanwal yep. i was a varsity athlete and made all-state choir and i remember being told i could only mention it once if it fit bc "i made varsity and did X at the same time" essays were so common it wouldn't stand out like i assumed it would
@Overs_Only@BrooksAustinBA and then when point shaving isn't enough, you'll bet against your team and flat out throw it. and now we're at the 1919 white sox except there are 140 of them playing FBS football.
@Overs_Only@BrooksAustinBA bc it never stops with $10 on your own team. $10 turns to $100, which turns into $1000, and so on. then you change the first play of the game from a run to a pass at the LOS bc you have $2,000 at +110 for a first play pass. then you lose big. then you point shave to get it of it
I'm told Texas Tech would consider legal action if athletic programs and/or conferences try to exclude them from competition or hinder their scheduling.
@MarcSDunham@GmorganJr@RossDellenger now that he can't be punished for gambling there's literally nothing stopping kickers from yanking a garbage time FG to cash in on hitting the under, or a safety blowing a coverage to make sure a longest touchdown prop hits. we've opened pandora's slot machine
@GmorganJr@RossDellenger bc in principle, sorsby being allowed to play means that the NCAA, as an impartial governing body, has ZERO ability to uphold the competitive integrity of collegiate sports.
in plain english: match fixing (by an individual) is now fair game in collegiate athletics
