Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), in collaboration with IGOT, SIGN, OTI UCSF, and AOA, is conducting a Regional Trauma Training Course currently taking place at MUHAS from May 19–22, 2026.
Officially opening the training, Prof. Emmanuel Balandya described the programme as a significant professional initiative aimed at strengthening surgical knowledge, practical skills, and advanced techniques among orthopaedic and trauma surgeons in Tanzania and across Africa.
He noted that as MUHAS continues to position itself as a regional centre of excellence in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, such training programmes play a critical role in enhancing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. He added that the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health’s broader vision of establishing Tanzania
as a regional medical hub for specialized healthcare services.
Prof. Balandya further explained that this year’s theme, “State-of-the-Art Techniques for Optimal and Reliable Outcomes in Trauma Care,” reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting innovation, modern surgical approaches, and improved patient outcomes in trauma
and orthopaedic care.
He emphasized that the programme seeks to support the Ministry of Health’s efforts to strengthen musculoskeletal healthcare services in the region through the training of competent orthopaedic and trauma surgeons equipped with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical skills. Over the years, the course has continued to benefit resident doctors, specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in trauma management.
The four-day training has brought together more than 150 participants from across Tanzania, including representatives from Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) and Bugando Medical Centre, alongside international participants from Uganda, Kenya, and Namibia.
Maturity is realizing, as an adult you gotta stop sharing some of your troubles with your parents because they end up stressing more than you, and now that adds up on the pressure.
O-level nilijipa tena challenge. 2012 Mwaka mgumu nikabahatika KUTOBOA. A-level nikachaguliwa Ilboru.
Huenda hichi siyo kitu kikubwa sana lakini, kwangu Mimi huwa ni reference point ninapokuwa nafanya jambo.
Nikikaribia kukata tamaa, I remind myself about this story. Kwamba ukefeli haimanishi umeshindwa moja kwa moja. Kuna nafasi nyingine.
Hata wewe huenda unajihisi kuwa hauwezi kufanya kitu kwa sababu hakuna ulichowahi ku-achieve unacho ona cha maana.
Hapana, kuna kitu. Jifanyie ‘Personal Audit’. Pick that one thing, ambacho uliwahi kufanya with all your dedications, efforts, prayers, conviction etc.
Hata kama ni kidogo kiasi gani, it is your Identity kwamba umewahi kufanya kitu. Kisha kile kilichowahi kukupa msukumo wa Kukufanya, relate na unachofanya kwa sasa.
Utagundua kuna “Patterns” sehemu una-miss au unahitaji kuboresha. Then, work on yourself.
Kisha jipe tena nafasi. Fanya!
Infectious disease outbreaks remain a recurrent challenge in Tanzania.
Without immediate action, emerging threats like antimicrobial resistance and climate-driven outbreaks risk replicating.
I am delivering a presentation at MUHAS regarding this topic.

Medicine humbles everyone. The senior who terrorized you in MBBS is your co-PG today. The junior you ignored is your senior tomorrow. The patient you dismissed teaches you the most. Be good early, the system has a long memory and a longer queue. Be good, Do good.
