Born and bread in The Gambia, West Africa. A passionate health worker. I envision a future where everyone has equal access to essential healthcare services.
Faith demands that we accept every fate that comes our way. But some occurrences are so hard to accept. Some knocks are so sharp to bear. And some lost will forever remain fresh in our minds. In the end, we only focus on that which we control and leave the rest to Allah.
I've read books, but I haven't read one like "History of Public Health in The Gambia." Hey, this book is giving me what I couldn't find in the national record office (archive). The chronology and historical accuracy are top-notch. Commendations to M.B. Jagne for this masterpiece.
In recent times, information has become readily available to everyone, like never experienced in history. Thus, we are bound to differ on many things and issues, especially in religion. However, those who taught us when we knew nothing must be respected. Gratitude is a virtue.
The best person to rely on is yourself. While it's important to listen and learn from others, ultimately, you have to take the decision. It's easier to deal with consequences that arise as a result of your own choice than one from others.
Our obsession with history isn't informed by a desire to live in the past. We seek to know what was to understand the current and ultimately predict and prepare for the future.
I had an interesting discussion with my public health students on their journey to Gambia College. Interestingly, they all have first career choices before what they are currently pursuing. Career indecision is an issue. I use the familiarity theory to inspire and motivate them.

Change is inevitable. Embrace it wholely. It's not bad to leave out some believes and actions because you now know more and better. Allow the natural process of transformation called growth to take it's rightful course.
Quite amazing to know that the Senegalese people refered to Cheikh Anta Diop as "The Pharaoh of Knowledge". A society that respect and venerate her scholars would certainly progressed. Knowledge and the knowledgeable must be respected and cherished.

Am not sure the one who isn't knowledgeable will actually valued knowledge genuinely. Many a times, we criticized the experts for not saying it the way we desired it. But hang on, must it always go down well with our whims for it to be true ?
Ramadan thought us self restrain and sacrifice. It also thought us to be compassionate and charitable. The lessons learned are numerous and invaluable. We can do better even outside Ramadan. May Allah grant us the ability to saved the changes we made.
