A man won £12,500 at William Hill. When he went to collect the rest of his cash, staff pressed the panic button and called the police on him twice.

– In August 2023, Michael placed three bets totalling £2,400 in cash at a William Hill shop in Harrogate. The bets were on two tennis matches and one football game.

– All three came in. His total return was approximately £12,500.

– He first went to the Starbeck branch. Staff only had £5,500 in the till, so they paid him that amount. Michael even left a £110 tip for the staff.

– The next day he went to the Harrogate Spa branch to collect the remaining £6,500+.

– Within roughly one minute of asking for his money, a staff member pressed the emergency panic button and called the police.

– Officers arrived. One of them told Michael on camera: “He hasn’t got the cash to pay you out.”

– Staff tried to force him to accept a bank transfer and hand over personal details. Michael refused, insisting that because he paid in cash he was entitled to be paid in cash.

– Police were called a second time during the dispute. Michael filmed both encounters.

– He was left with two unpaid betting slips still showing “Good luck!” printed by William Hill.

He won the money fair and square with cash bets. The bookmaker’s response was to treat him like a criminal and call the police for trying to collect what he was owed.

The right wing, media and press and especially the Telegraph continue to distort this story - BP are not leaving because Britain has some awful regime within which they can't make money - they are leaving because Britain’s North Sea has been all but emptied - official estimates are 10% or 10 years left - production began to decline 30 years go, this is not new. There’s no drama here - real story - capitalist company goes where it can make the most money - surprise, surprise. And that’s in new oil fields - not 60 year old ones verging on empty. They will find a buyer for their North Sea projects though, note they are not closing down. BP have had their way with our North Sea, now they seek the same in Venezuela.

It was not for good behavior or because she had paid her victims back. Morgan was being released because President Trump had commuted her sentence, freeing her and writing off the restitution payments she owed the people she had defrauded.

The death of Jason Arday hit so close to home that I had no words yesterday. But I woke up with words.

To be a prominent antiracist Black scholar is to know you are a target, almost totally surrounded by resentments. You know that at any point, the attacks can come like a lynch mob.

And if you die from all the attacks, the media still calls the attacks on you “accusations” to wash their hands of the blood. Your lynchers announce your death as if they had no role in your lynching.

A 41 year old father is dead after saying he couldn't go on. Julia Hartley-Brewer's first instinct is a full character assassination. Classic right bloodsport.

Personal responsibility is real. The fabrications and textual overlaps look serious. Cambridge failed by elevating the inspirational fable over verification. They tokenised a working class autistic lad from Clapham because real power and knowledge for the likes of him was never on offer, only the story. When it cracked the right seized the body while the PPE networks and actual elite frauds stayed untouched.

Her pure individual blame is the powerful punching down and calling it toughness. Neither liberal identity theatre nor their reactionary hierarchy delivers for the many. We need hard secular standards for everyone, democratised knowledge that serves people and the living world, not games that chew lives up. Stop the dancing. Start the rebuild.
