@JLBnEspi@HomerPura@Boenau I never saw anybody shoveling sidewalks on streets that have bike lanes. I’ve also never heard of anybody asking for bike lanes to be shoveled. In my area, the bike lanes are where all the snow and leaves accumulate.
@JLBnEspi@HomerPura@Boenau Lol-no. Neither bike lanes nor roads are part of city budget in my area. It’s county. And as I said, bike lanes are virtually free (paint). Sidewalks (which are used way less than bike lanes) are very expensive by comparison. But again, not paid for by drivers.
@Boenau Bike weight is spread out so even 1000 bikes wouldn’t match the one vehicle. I would say the weather and earth movement wears out roads faster than bikes.
@JLBnEspi@HomerPura@Boenau I don’t live within any city. I live in the burbs. Really isn’t any “bike” infrastructure on the roads I ride. I’m just using the shoulder which in some cases has a bike symbol painted on it. Riding saves me and the cars around me money. I get no reimbursements for that.
@JLBnEspi@HomerPura@Boenau You’re the one claiming I want to use bikes instead of ships. I’m talking about the cost benefit analysis of bikes for commuting.
@JLBnEspi@HomerPura@Boenau I do pay extra already. That’s my point. The things I depend on make marginally less noise because I depend on them marginally less than if I drove to work.
@JLBnEspi@HomerPura@Boenau A bike isn’t a plausible substitute for a ship or a train. But it is a plausibly more economic substitute for a car in many situations.
@Softyland1@Boenau I think we can agree being reckless is bad and bikes endangering people is bad in any context. But that video didn’t show recklessness. I think it’s fine for bikes to roll through a stop sign if it’s safe (in Oregon it’s explicitly legal to do this.).
@HistoryBoomer Capitalism is evil, the US was built by slaves or fundamentally based on slavery, women earn less than men for the same job, communism works if only we gave it a chance, the wealthy don’t pay taxes.
