Illiberalism.

I remember the days trying to educate people about what a “libertarian” was, informing folk that we weren’t liberals, though we appreciated classical liberalism, which would open a new can of worms, or just us get a blank stare.

We need to get back to using my old friend @BasedDavidNolan’s Nolan Chart (RIP, David) to describe the slide toward authoritarianism by both major parties (here in the 🇺🇸).

@TheAdvocates has been putting out the “World’s Smallest Political Quiz” for decades. It’s a start to get people away from “left and right”, which describes nothing in 2026.

Decades ago, I fought against this issue within the Libertarian party. We called it the 100/100 club, where @BasedDavidNolan’s chart, modified by @TheAdvocates, was used as a purity test.

People like Richard Boddie pushed for a 70/70 threshold, allowing people to become educated in Austrian economics and the writings of the Founders.

After @RealAngelaMc got POTUS to appear at the convention, I started to have hope. Then I saw the commies come out of the woodwork—poser Libertarians akin to RINO—skewing to the left.

I soon thereafter proffered a meme that reflected on a question one of our Founders was asked. It might have some value for you today.

Like Reagan said about the Democrat party leaving him, I said that about Republicans back in the early 90’s.

As much as it pains me, I have to say that about many, but not all, of the Reason types.

There are many OG Libertarians, myself included, that remember the old ways & the people that taught us.

Free Minds, Free Markets, Self Governors: Freedom & Liberty balanced with Responsibility was our ethos. Limited government that was able to execute its core mission was the goal.

We were of the Austrian School by immersion, & the elders encouraged those newly discovered to be in the 70/70 region of the Nolan Chart to embrace Anti-Keynesian philosophy by discovery (paper books back in those days), not by bullying.

We were encouraged to enlighten ourselves.

@RealAngelaMc did yeoman’s work in advancing liberty, which, in the end, is all that matters. Freedom & Liberty in our Lifetime.

Maybe @elonmusk is right in saying we need a new party…

But I believe if the Libertarian Party would go back to its roots, purge the commies, and recruit adults vs the Developmentally Arrested, we could be the big tent that disillusioned Democrats & Republicans flock to.

BREAKING: JUDGE ORDERS SEIZURE OF TEACHER ENOCH BURKE’S €40,000 BANK BALANCE AND WALKS OUT AS ENOCH BURKE SEEKS TO MAKE SUBMISSIONS

Enoch Burke’s bank account containing €40,000 has today been seized by the Courts. This follows the seizure by the Courts of his teaching salary last week. The Court also directed that the Attorney General may apply to seize any other assets owned by Enoch Burke.

Senior Counsel Brian Kennedy SC for the Attorney General was granted as much time as he wished to make his submissions in Court on this unprecedented matter and was not questioned in any way by the bench. By contrast, when Enoch Burke rose to speak, he was cut off after only 5 minutes by Mr Justice David Nolan, who repeatedly interrupted him. The Judge then delivered his pre-prepared ruling immediately.

Enoch Burke sought to draw attention to the fact that the root cause of this case, the principal's direction to all staff to address a male student by a new name and the "they" pronoun, has never been assessed for its constitutionality or lawfulness by any Court, despite these proceedings being now ongoing for more than 2.5 years. When Enoch Burke read out Article 44 of the Irish Constitution, which binds the State to "respect and honour religion", he was immediately shut down by Judge David Nolan.

There’s a telling part of Bill’s comments, @angela4LNCChair, near the end when he said that all organisms want to live.

To my friend David Nolan (RIP, “Mr. Chart” 😂, I used to use ‘OK, Mr. Chart’ when he was getting worked up)… we are almost at freedom in our time.

David Nolan shares his criteria for being a real Libertarian:

"As a founder of the Libertarian Party and editor-in-chief of California Liberty, I am often asked how to tell if someone is "really" a libertarian. There are probably as many different definitions of the word "libertarian" as there are people who claim the label. These range from overly broad ("anyone who calls himself a libertarian is one") to impossibly doctrinaire ("only those who agree with every word in the party platform are truly annointed").

My own definition is that in order to be considered a libertarian, at least in the political context, an individual must adhere without compromise to five key points. Ideally, of course, we'd all be in agreement on everything. But we're not, and probably never will be. Debate is likely to continue indefinitely on such matters as abortion, foreign policy, and whether, when, and how various government programs can be discontinued or privatized. But as far as I'm concerned, if someone is sound on these five points, he/she is de facto a libertarian; if he fails on even one of the five, he isn't. What then, are the "indispensible five" -- the points of no compromise?"
