basepad is a fork of an MIT-licensed project. MIT lets anyone copy, modify and even sell the code, as long as the license notice stays. It does, and our site has said we're a fork since day one.

We respected the team behind it. But releasing code under MIT and then attacking people for using it exactly as MIT allows, the moment it outperforms your own launch, isn't a principle. It's frustration.

Funny thing is, this is the same team that got known for OpenClaude: a repo built on Anthropic's leaked Claude Code source. Their own LICENSE file says the original code is Anthropic's proprietary software and that they have no authorization to distribute it.

So no, we won't take open-source ethics lessons from them.

If they ever build something that genuinely helps @base , we'll be the first to support it. But this week they showed everyone how selfish and jealous they can be.

Our factory contract is already our own, and today we're shipping a fully rebuilt basepad front-end. By the end of the day, there won't be anything left to argue about.

This is the last time we address it. Base is moving, and we'd rather spend our energy building for it.
