My friend who spent millions of Naira, traveled across continents and risked his life traveling from Maiduguri to Edo just to produce this documentary has been halted from screening it across Kano & Abuja.
The question is, who is afraid of the real story coming out?
Press Statement about Uromi-16 Documentary Premiere
Fellow Nigerians,
We write on behalf of the Producer of the documentary UROMI-16: THE STORY, Mr. Sa'id Sa'ad Abubakar to formally inform the public that the scheduled screenings of the documentary in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano have been temporarily postponed. This decision has not been taken lightly.
Recent developments, including credible security concerns have made it necessary to reassess the immediate environment in which the documentary is to be released. The safety of all stakeholders particularly viewers remains paramount.
We wish to state clearly and unequivocally: UROMI-16: THE STORY is a fact-based, human-interest documentary aimed at correcting misinformation and presenting the truth about an unfortunate jungle justice incident. The essence of the documentary film is to promote understanding, accountability, and justice.
This temporary postponement should therefore not be misconstrued as a withdrawal, capitulation, or abandonment of purpose. It is a measured and responsible step taken in the interest of public safety and the preservation of human life.
At the same time, we remain firmly committed to ensuring that:
• the truth is told;
• the dignity of the victims is preserved; and
• justice is pursued through lawful and constructive means.
We are currently engaging relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that all concerns - particularly those relating to safety, rights, and accountability - are properly addressed in a manner consistent with constitutional guarantees and the rule of law.
We urge the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and patient.
The story of Uromi-16 is not one that can be silenced, it is one that must be told responsibly, received thoughtfully, and acted upon justly. In the meantime, the team will begin an immediate refund process for all tickets purchased using the verified email address in the ticketing system. All refunds will be made in 3 weeks from now.
Further updates regarding the rescheduled screenings or platforms of release will be communicated in due course.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
