Today, I had the honor of participating in the Education Sector Retreat on the Ministerial Performance Management System (MPMS) for Heads of Departments and Units, Chief Executives of Parastatals/Agencies.
This retreat brought together stakeholders from across the Ministry and its parastatals to strengthen our collective capacity for performance management and service delivery. The PMS is central to the Federal Civil Service reform agenda, shifting from traditional assessments to a results-based system that links institutional goals to departmental and individual responsibilities.
As we prepare for the 2026 Performance Management Contracts, the focus is clear: align institutional priorities, departmental work plans, and individual performance targets. This alignment will strengthen accountability, improve execution, and help the Ministry deliver on its mandates and High-Impact Ministerial Deliverables.
BRIEF HISTORY OF ISLAMIC HIJRI CALENDAR
Short #Thread
The Islamic calendar was introduced by Amirul mu’mineen Umar bin Al Khattab (رضي الله عنه) the second Caliph of Islam in 17AH/638 AD.
Today, I chaired the National Working Committee (NWC) of WorldSkills Nigeria, bringing together the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), and other key stakeholders.
Our discussions covered a range of strategic priorities. At the top of the agenda was Nigeria's preparations for the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 Competition. We also deliberated on the establishment of the WorldSkills Academy Abuja, the handover of the WorldSkills Nigeria Secretariat from NBTE to ITF, and plans for the official launch of WorldSkills Nigeria in Abuja.
Every item on that agenda points to the same goal: equipping Nigerian youth to compete and excel on the world stage. The Federal Government remains firmly committed to strengthening TVET, raising the bar for skills excellence, and ensuring Nigeria takes its rightful place in the global skills ecosystem.
Today we visited Huawei EBC Exhibition Centre for smart governance, digital power, etc. Huawei is the largest telecommunications vendor in Nigeria. The company supplies infrastructure for major carriers like MTN Nigeria and provides enterprise solutions, cloud services, and digital power systems.
It was an opportunity to see state of the art digital facilities. Many EV models are linked with Huawei digital technology. This is a company that only started in 1988, introduced in Nigeria in 1999. It is the result of discipline, determination, and selflessness. I urge them to concentrate their activities on providing opportunities for Nigeria's young population, as part of sharing the profits they have been making doing business in Nigeria. Future jobs will mostly be reserved for those with ICT skills.
