Five People. Over N1 Trillion. One National Tragedy.

They say Nigeria is broke. Before you accept that, read this.

Just five individuals linked to major public office. Over N1 trillion in assets recovered or forfeited through EFCC investigations and court proceedings.

• Diezani Alison-Madueke - Multiple luxury properties, cash, jewellery, vehicles, vessels & other assets - N600bn+ (estimated)

• Abubakar Malami - 57 properties (including a university, hotels, filling stations, an agro-allied factory, shopping complex & luxury homes) - N213.2bn

• Godwin Emefiele - 753 units Abuja housing estate, luxury properties, vehicles & cash - N250bn+ (estimated)

• Patience Jonathan - Cash, bank accounts & properties - N30bn+ (estimated)

• Salihu Nuhu Jamari - N3.4bn in cash & 3 properties

That's over N1 trillion from just five people.

None of these five was a President or a State Governor. Let that sink in.

ASUU has consistently maintained that about N1.3 trillion is needed to revitalize Nigeria's public universities. The recovered or forfeited assets linked to just five people amount to over N1 trillion. This is more than 80% of that figure.

If just five people account for over N1 trillion in recovered or forfeited assets, how much more of Nigeria's wealth is still out there?

Mrs. Mojisolaoluwa Kehinde Alli-Macaulay was accused of hoarding the COVID-19 relief materials meant for her constituency and later using the same as party packs at her birthday event.

Ironically, in 2024, Tinubu appointed her to serve as the Executive Director of Operations at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

She is still on that job, managing “social insurance funds,” while still carrying the scandal of looting relief packages meant for social intervention.✍️

JUST IN: Femi Gbajabiamila reportedly forged a law, used it to collect ₦54bilion from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), claiming it was an order from Pres. Tinubu. Bayo Onanuga backs him.

He allegedly demanded 4% of NUPRC’s revenue, to be split into two. 2.5% and 1.5%, the latter will be for “upgrading of crude oil and gas metering and transparency systems” — this doesn’t exist in this context. It was his way of illegally collecting the money to himself.

Gbaja assumed office as Chief of Staff in June 2023. The incident occurred in July 2023, just weeks after Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sworn in.

Bayo Onanuga insists the money was not illegal and that it was released under a lawful order from the President. Which is concerning, because the President does not have the legal authority to issue such orders.

Apparently, the Presidential Chief of Staff also reached out to FIRS, NIMASA and Nigerian Customs with similar tactics.
