Roman Khrennikov gave us one of the most powerful moments in CrossFit Games history.
Khrennikov, who trains out of Cookeville, Tennessee, led the 2023 CrossFit Games for two-thirds of the competition before sustaining a left-foot injury on the final day of competition. Instead of withdrawing, Roman decided to try and finish to set an example for his son.
In an unforgettable moment, he taught all who watched a lesson in courage.
“I want to set be a hero for my son and have him see me fight to the end,” said Roman after Test 10 of 12.
Khrennikov finished third overall and was awarded one of the highest honors among the @CrossFit community.
Nicole Carroll, CrossFit’s Chief Brand Officer, on Roman’s performance:
“The person receiving this year's Spirit of the Games award has faced many challenges and made many sacrifices on his way to competing at the CrossFit Games. And in the face of all that, he has always carried himself with kindness and positivity.
“This year he looked poised to win it all, but the challenges continued, and today, he inspired all of us with an unwavering display of courage and a first-class display of character when he stepped back out onto the competition floor.
“He embodies the generosity of spirit and courage that marks our community — that binds us together and makes us better.”
Khrennikov is the third-Fittest Man on Earth and the Spirit of the Games winner.

The costs of leadership:
1. You will have to make hard decisions that negatively affect people you care about.
2. You will be disliked, despite your best attempt to do the best for the most.
3. You will be misunderstood and won’t always have the opportunity to defend yourself.
If they praise you, SHOW UP and DO THE WORK. If they criticize you, SHOW UP and DO THE WORK. If no one even notices you, just SHOW UP and DO THE WORK. Just keep showing up, doing the work, and leading the way.

Gonna be a wild December watching Ohio State fans go from:
“Fire Day” and “Stroud is soft” to
“We’re gonna win it all”
Despite not playing a single game to change those opinions.
Thank you once again Amy Bream (onelegtostandon) for believing and thank you CrossFitGames for allowing the adaptive division to show up and show out.
