Ha pasado más de un siglo desde esta viñeta de la revista satírica Puck pero podrían perfectamente haberlo publicado recientemente. En la ilustración vemos al Tío Sam y a John Bull (el tío Sam británico) junto a Nicolás II de Rusia, Guillermo II de Alemania, y el resto de comensales de "La Alianza de las Ocho Naciones" que arrasó Beijing, quemando la ciudad, matando, violando y espoliando sin ningún tipo de limitación. En la imagen vemos como se ironizaba antes de escalar la colina debatiendo sobre “la cuestión China”. Increíble que algo así, publicado el 25 de julio del año 1900, pueda resultarnos tan familiar. ¿No hemos aprendido nada?

Voy a sacar una serie de vídeos cortos, con más de un centenar de viñetas de hace más de 100 años, para mostrar cómo sorprendentemente estamos repitiendo peligrosamente la historia... Cómo, de nuevo, nos inventamos la amenaza China, nos coaligamos, conspiramos y nos preparamos para atacar sin que los chinos nos hayan provocado.
