If President Maumoon had prioritised the easy way out and short-term monetary benefit, as the current government is doing, he could have handed Hulhumale Phase I to a foreign party for residential development in 2002.
If President Yameen had made the same choice, Hulhumale Phase II could have been handed over for foreign residential development too.
Had they done that, 24 years later, today, we could have had anywhere between 30,000 - 60,000 financially privileged foreigners living in Hulhumale, while Maldivians worked there serving them. With our declining and financially weak population, those foreigners will be the one calling shots and deciding everything.
We could have become second-class citizens in our own country.
Thankfully, they chose differently.
Thank you, President @maumoonagayoom and President @prz_ymn , for not choosing the easy way out, for not sacrificing our long-term national interest for temporary monetary benefit.
That is exactly what this government is doing with Rasmale, choosing short-term benifit over long-term national interest. A handful of people in government facilitating this will benefit today, they will make enough to leave Maldives with their family, ordinary Maldivians, their children and grandchildren, will live with the consequences long after those people are gone.
We left our most capable ppl in the back rows and handed the steering to school dropouts, thugs and ppl with questionable records. Then we wonder why the ship is drifting.
@sharualiaminath@MMuizzu Thats nice. Post pictures of these people and completely ignore the others embezzeling state funds for their own personal needs. That makes you a hypocrite and an enabler. :) Your are just as compliant in the crimes against the state.
