Incredible day of community engagement for @UVic’s Coastal Climate Solutions Leaders re: Designing a Climate Smart Neighbourhood for the new Ian Stewart Complex. Tx to Saanich, CRD, and Victoria planners, city council members and developers! So many ideas, such great energy!
@ChiefSciCan Dr Nemer, Any chance of you moving to Bluesky? This platform has seen a mass exodus of the science committee over the past month and huge increase where the skies are blue.
This is (part of) what we mean when we say that #climatechange is an everything issue: Climate breakdown will hit global growth by a third, say central banks https://t.co/yIFgtv8SLC
Woot, woot!! 🥳🎉🥳 Huge congratulations to this year’s Arthur B. McDonald Fellowship award winners - I believe this is the 1st time all 6 winners are women!! Something to celebrate in an otherwise bleak week. @NSERC_CRSNG - NSERC https://t.co/nXhoAQgU2l
Excellent news, and on behalf of Canada’s ecology and evolutionary biology research community (@CSEE_SCEE), I can say that this is much welcomed. 🇨🇦 💵 🇨🇦
Increases to NSERC Discovery Grants: Budget 2024 funds will be ramped up over the next 5 years, with $20.4 million this 1st year & increasing to $227 million per year in year 5 & ongoing. These increases will enable researchers to better support students & postdoctoral fellows.
In 2022, global fossil fuel subsidies were $7 trillion or the equivalent of 7.1% of global gross domestic product (GDP).
We effectively PAY oil and gas companies $7trillion every year to create this kind of damage and suffering ....but we can't afford to reduce emissions? 🧐
Tips, tricks, content for effective lab writing retreats, please! We're going on our 1st lab writing retreat and I'd love to hear what worked well for yours. Resources on how to improve scientific writing are especially welcome. Thanks science peeps!
"Most mini trucks have the same roughly 6-foot bed size as the F-150."
They're cheap, don't pollute much, and great for farm work.
Now there's something Ford and GMC *definitely* don't want you to know.

"The right tool for the job..." isn't always a big-ass honking pick-up.
Picking up groceries with an F-150 is like...
Cracking nuts with a sledgehammer
or Making toast with a flamethrower.
6 out of 10 trips are under 5 miles; usually a smaller vehicle will do...
@JoshuaCinner @uvic So great!! I wish everyone knew how fun it was so it felt less like an obligation and instead like the much better way to commute that it is. Win-win 🤩
Here is a bike lane, fall trees, e-bike, and turkey dinner for 18 people.
What’s not here is a 6,000lb SUV to pickup 25lbs of food supplies.
I’m thankful for the leadership of ppl before me that helped build the foundations of a compact, bikeable city that we all get to enjoy 🙏🏽
