Dear Cyber Security Wannabe, Want a Career in Cyber? You Must Learn these 3 Things:

1. TCP/IP - It's the motor of the internet and every network out there. Every piece of software and hardware uses it. If you understand how the motor works, you can drive any car.

2. Hands on Labs - Let's face it. There are tons of industry standard tools out there. Nmap, Wireshark, Metasploit, Burp, Kali, and so many others. Get hands on experience. This can be done with TryHackMe, HacktheBox, and others. No one cares how you've developed your knowledge. They only care that you know it. It'll be super cool when you can talk about the same tools that professionals use every day.

3. Networking - The real kind. You can have all kinds of real world experience and certifications. However, if no one knows you, it does you no good. It's like a Corvette that is loaded with a ton of accessories, but it's stored in a barn where no one can see it. You need visibility. Get out there and shake hands in person and virtually every single day. It's not who you know, it's who knows you.

Knowledge is power.
