The main problem I see with new writers is that their voice is informed more by cheap TV than by good books. Seriously, so many stories I read sound like CW screenplays.

@MayaCPopa Sharon Olds's collection "Stag's Leap" and David Lee's poem "Psalm Written after Reading Cormac McCarthy and Taking a Three-Hour Climb to the Top of Pine Valley Mountain"--to me the language of these has a scriptural tone. With Lee it's intentional. I'm not sure about Olds.

Just got a flash CNF piece accepted! First prose acceptance in over two years! Meanwhile, I've kind of lost count of the number of poetry publications I've gotten this year (I think I'm at nine). Why do you think it's harder for CNF to get published?
