When President Obasanjo temporarily removed fuel subsidy in 2003 or thereabout, fuel price climbed from N26 to N42. People grumbled as usual, but did you know his response? That, if Nigerians are willing to buy a bottle of beer for more money, why complain about the cost of fuel?

Labor Congress wasn’t having it. They protested so hard and nearly crashed the economy and Obasanjo grudgingly reinstated fuel subsidy in 2006!

So where did Nigerians learn this culture of suffering and smiling today? How did you go from paying N42 a liter to N1,370 a liter with no pushback?
