Last butterfly count of 2025 today at our Durlston East transect. Just 7 species, but 3rd week running saw Clouded Yellows, an influx of them this September. And single Common Blue - maybe the last blue in 2025 @savebutterflies@DorsetWildlife@GreenDorset@BC_Dorset@SightingDOR
Further recent inward migration of Clouded Yellow along the Dorset coast has increased numbers on Southbourne Undercliff. 20+ seen today, including 2 of the helice form 😀 @BC_Dorset@SightingDOR@MigrantMothUK
Butterflies at Durlston today - Comma, Clouded Yellow, Common Blue, and a Wasp Spider (underside). In the last few weeks we have seen 7 Clouded Yellows. Total species count today 12 - good for end of season. @savebutterflies@DorsetWildlife@GreenDorset@BC_Dorset@SightingDOR
I have never managed to get a good upperside shot of a female Holly Blue - this one hung around in our garden at Harman's Cross for about 30 minutes on our fleabane but only partially opened its wings. @savebutterflies@GreenDorset@DorsetWildlife@BC_Dorset@SightingDOR
Jersey Tiger moth showing a small portion of its bright red underwings and a Small Heath at Durlston yesterday. We are seeing lots of the Jersey Tiger moths this year - don't they look amazing in flight! @savebutterflies@DorsetWildlife@GreenDorset@BC_Dorset@SightingDOR
Trying to stay cool at the bottom of my garden, something had other ideas for me.I saw a bright butterfly trapped in fine cobwebs in my empty very hot greenhouse ,so just had to try to save it.🥵
Couldn't believe it was the 1st Wall Brown I've ever recorded in 42 yrs in my garden
@martinswarren is running two more of his popular Marvellous Moths events in Corfe Castle this summer. First up on Sunday 27th July. 09:30-11:00. He usually gets some wonderful species. https://t.co/UIbHLC3UgV
2 Silver-washed Fritillaries in our Harman's Cross garden today - the first a male possed for photos, then a female but she declined to be photographed. These are the first I have seen this year. @savebutterflies@GreenDorset@SightingDOR@DorsetWildlife@BC_Dorset
On our Durlston transect today (Swanage) this Large Skipper and Clouded Silver moth. We counted 150 butterflies of 9 species despite a windy day, although quite sheltered in parts of the coast path and meadows. @savebutterflies@DorsetWildlife@SightingDOR@GreenDorset@BC_Dorset
