Shout-out to the other neurodivergents who use parentheses too much (to add context to make sure nothing is misunderstood) (because parentheses clarify our directness) (I hope this tweet makes sense).
1. Many journalists are asking what the Royal family has to do with colonialism. I'll just cover the basics. Elizabeth I gave her ships to English slave trading voyages by John Hawkins in the 1560s. Slave-trading didn't begin in earnest, though, till the reign of Charles II.
@AntoinetteWallr Yes. I think that it is built into the fabric of academia. Validation comes from quantifiable achievements. Seeing everyone else's new publications and positions just fuels imposter syndrome. Academia needs to find more caring metrics of success.
The problem with academia is that there is no good enough. It's always this can be better. And when you know you're doing your best but it can still be better, you get frustrated because you can never achieve that better. This affects mental health.
6 signs that you are mentally & emotionally depleted:
1. You don’t feel motivated
2. You can’t focus/concentrate
3. Small tasks seem overwhelming
4. You constantly dream & fantasize about a drastic change
5. You get easily irritated
6. Resting isn’t helping your energy levels
https://t.co/pSnX61YF2V exists to make a profit off academics' work by selling user data but they aren't making enough so they constantly bother scholars for more uploads to lure more users to commodify!
@LenoxLaney Easing the mind with creativity is so healing. I keep looking at my shelf of novels gathering dust wishing to just take a day to read for fun. It's so hard to let go and enjoy.
@FinalDaysOfPhd @AcademicChatter I totally get that. It is hard to shake the feeling of not living up to the impossible standards of constant production of scholarship. But sometimes the brain just needs a break.
A Florida governor using the state to perpetuate White supremacy by halting knowledge; “America being America,” which is precisely the point of why our sordid history on race and misuse of power needs to be taught so we can chart a more enlightened, just and moral path
Monuments are just reflections of the culture that built them. The issue is not just about one fascist monument - It’s about a system that upholds white supremacy to its core.

@ZJAyres I can totally relate. I sometimes have to use a mental decoy to keep my mind occupied so I can enjoy something else. Playing a computer game while watching a familiar show (preferably on the same theme) is about as close to relaxation as I get.
Either Academia, edu is a cruel lying menace devoted to making early career researchers miserable or I have an unbelievable number of doppelgangers doing a mind-boggling array of cutting-edge research in every field but mine.
