@edtechmathteach I also know that by the time I get to the "new" stuff (matrices, logs/ln) the kids are done. For me the drag always starts with rational functions. (Its "new" because while I hit those in algebra-1, its a quick unit as an intro.) And I love the interplay of rational f(x)s.

I have 4 binders stuffed to overflowing with notes and handouts for Alg2. Four different approaches using 2 different textbooks. Doing my 3rd textbook this semester before I step away from teaching. Why can't we do Alg2 better?

@edtechmathteach Feels like it starts way to basic, at least with the curriculums I've had to use. Back to FOIL and deFOIL, and graphing lines from point tables. Seems to me that we need to start deeper into the material, so start with something new and review when needed for basics.

We have a nice transition into geometry, its different. Then, 3rd year comes and its Alg again but with longer problems. Maybe I need to change the order of the chapters? Would that even be possible?

@ka3ytl YES! Thats the only thing I see as well. Of course when I'm making box and whisker I don't actually make a stem and leaf, I simply reorder/organize the data in way that makes it easier to use.

Maybe I'll lose my math teacher's membership card here, but can we stop with the stem and leaf graphs already on standardized tests? Can anyone send me a stem and leaf graph they have found in the wild? NY times article? Washington Post? Politico? ESPN? Bueller? Bueller?

@edtechmathteach If colleges are not requiring 4 years (check individual college) its tricky to force 4 years on students. Alg/Geo/Alg2 should be adequate for most students. We find that students interested in STEM know early in their HS years and push to get 4/5 math classes by graduation 7/n

@edtechmathteach Speech Pathology--Stats, Nursing-Stats, Education-College Algebra, Film/Media production-College Algebra. If they are going STEM, we recommend getting to Calculus in HS (tricky because we are starting the process of moving algebra to 8th grade for some students. 4/n
