Girls will survive abuse, heartbreak, grief, and unspeakable tragedies and still navigate through the world with kindness and compassion, but one minor inconvenience in a man's childhood and he spends the rest of his life terrorizing and poisoning everyone around him
In 1998, I was fired from my corporate job while 9 months pregnant because and I quote, “my priorities would be elsewhere after the baby is born.”
The lawyer I hired told me I didn’t have a case because discrimination like “that” was almost impossible to prove.
So I got pissed.
Took the LSAT. Went to law school. Passed the bar. Had 3 more kids.
Twelve years later, another woman from that same company was fired for the same reason. She sued them for a million dollars, and won, partly because I had kept every piece of evidence from what happened to me years prior demonstrating a systemic pattern of discrimination against women.
That company no longer exists. My law practice is thriving. And that baby they said would derail my priorities? She’s a brilliant attorney now working at my firm.
Turns out my priorities were indeed, elsewhere.
Find audacity. There is nothing that will help you more in this life than audacity, find it, let it push you to do things , to silence the noise , to go back to school, to leave the country, to start a business, to do things . To fight for your life.
Yemenis have been doing this for decades and it's called zabad. There's genuinely nothing on planet earth that smells better. If Americans found out, they would turn it into a multi-million dollar industry
Maya Angelou really snapped when she said, "We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."
i actually think "surface-level" friendships are very healthy. not everyone in your life has to be your ride-or-die. some friends are for the gym. some friends are for church. some are just for complaining about work or bureaucracy. when you stop expecting everyone to be your everything, the disappointment disappears. the deep conversations are for the 2-3 people closest to you.
we live on a planet where trees warn each other of danger through underground networks. where octopuses dream. where elephants return to the bones of their dead and stand over them in silence. where bees communicate through dance, showing each other where to fly. where flowers bloom...where crows remember human faces -especially those who were cruel to them - and pass that memory on to their young. where ants build entire cities. where cats purr at a frequency that can help heal bones. where forests, after fires, grow flowers first.
The way this single handedly demonstrates the history of white jealousy, domination and destruction. Observe someone with a gift, decide they want to take it, interfere without consent, and when ignored or not given what they want decide to attempt to steal it from you.
It’s sad that during your formative years, your exposure to the world is largely limited by your parent’s own exposure. If they value things like music lessons, spelling bees, sports, or exploring random hobbies, you benefit from that. If not, it’s just chores and TV for you.
I saw a TikTok video where a girl talks about if you're creative and you're not actively creating and using that energy, it will instead come out in self-destructive ways; overthinking, anxiety, etc..and it has me gagged
If you have a kid, David Lloyd is worth it like mad. My son does at least 4 hours of classes a week. Thats 16 hours of childcare a month for like 40 quid.
To think before this show, I was driving Uber and barely had $500 to my name… to now being a pivotal character on the number 1 show in the world… there’s no words to explain how great God is. All it takes is one. Grateful forever. #BeautyInBlack
