Those who celebrate @elonmusk's $1 trillion fortune need to be reminded of a simple and vital truth:
That there is a fundamental tension between extreme wealth and the very possibility of democracy.
As you know very well, nobody is trying to remove parking. The proposal would simply eliminate mandatory minimum parking requirements.
Parking minimums are often cited by housing experts and developers as one of the main impediments to building new housing.
Developers continue to report that Boston’s affordable & environmental requirements are worsening our housing crisis. Instead of working with them to build, city councilors now want to remove parking. We need to address the housing crisis instead of parking purity tests! #bospoli
@EdforBoston Can you explain why it’s public employees’ job to stimulate the local economy?
I understand the argument that workers may be more productive in office, but this is a strange rationale for bringing city staff to work more, and has nothing to do with bars staying open 1 extra hour
@EdforBoston you have the power to amend the budget.
The only thing you’ve suggested cutting is the one program that allows residents to directly decide how city $ should be spent - participatory budgeting.
Cutting the people of Boston out of the process is not the answer.
I can’t accept a cut to veterans services, and health and wellness and cancer screening for firefighters. I’m not playing “both sides.” I also believe in fiscal discipline, responsibility and accountability. I’m providing the critical leadership Boston residents expect from me.
@EdforBoston the issue is that you’re playing both sides. On one hand, you advocate for “fiscal responsibility” and budget cuts. But then when cuts happen, you are outraged. You have the power to amend the budget. Use it.
The vote was 6 to 6. Advocating for Boston residents is not theater. We can’t remain silent when we see injustice as the city cut programs for veterans, health and wellness services for firefighters, youth employment opportunities, services for low income families.
Commercial property will cost between $1.7-$2.1B in annual revenue. We’re over $100M in debt after 2 years of 10+% tax increases. MBTA - $30B in repair, BPS buses late. Congestion pricing harms workers who don’t have luxury of remote work. We should welcome any/all back Downtown!
Not cited by who? Parking minimums increase construction costs, reduce unit counts, and curb development. This is well documented.
The City should be doing everything in its power to build more.
Parking is not reason cited for anemic housing #’s in Boston. Developers say added affordable housing/energy requirements on top of high interest rates, construction costs. Let’s focus on economic development, not parking purity tests. Neighbors know cars will park on the street.
Death is always lurking. We see it in violence, in the wounds of the world, in the cry of pain that rises from every corner because of the abuses that crush the weakest among us, because of the idolatry of profit that plunders the earth’s resources, because of the violence of war that kills and destroys. #Easter
@EdforBoston If you believe in due process then why are you donating to his GoFundMe before any evidence comes to light? Seems like you’ve already made up your mind.
The District Attorney who watched body camera footage charged this officer with manslaughter. Perhaps you should wait for more information or an investigation before commenting and donating to his GoFundMe.
A GoFundMe site is established for Police Officer O’Malley. His family will need all the financial support as possible during these challenging times. I just sent a personal donation. I want to encourage my friends to consider supporting Officer O’Malley with a donation. #bospoli
Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network.
In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome.
AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement.
We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only.
We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements.
We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.
It’s not just today. This is how it looks every single day. With motorcycles blazing the wrong way down the bike lanes. Pure chaos.
We need Boston Police to actually enforce traffic violations.
Today on Boylston Street, the entire block from Dartmouth to Clarendon Streets FILLED with double parked cars, its everyday. If you double park you should go to jail for the rest of your life, and why are their delivery trucks during the day?@bostonradio@CityOfBoston@EdforBoston
