The Beliefs, Emotions, and Attitudes about Mathematics Research Lab in the Department of Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University, directed by @cbg131
The BEAM Research Lab is back recruiting for our online research study on achievement attitudes and beliefs! Know of any parents with 4th-8th graders in the U.S.? Feel free to share with parents who may be eligible! Email us at [email protected] for more info & scheduling.
Ahem, Cannoli the Terrier would like your ✨attention✨ because the next Barking up the Tree #researchacorn is here! Coincidentally, Cannoli is barking about attention & math anxiety 🎙️🐕 This study was co-authored by @DrZheWang, another faculty member at Texas A&M!
Dr. Squirrel found this study insightful, especially because the finding could be used to explain why her terrier anxiety is so connected to the progress she's made on plans for getting away from terriers... needless to day, she has not made very much progress!
The first Barking up the Tree #researchacorn is here, and Cannoli is barking about children’s career aspirations! 🎙️🐕 She’s glad she found this one to start with because Dr. Barroso (one of the authors) could help her understand it.
Dr. Squirrel is also glad Cannoli found this research acorn. She thinks the gender differences that were found at this early age is most interesting, and maybe she can inspire more girls to aspire to engineering and math/computer science careers! 🧪 📚 🧮 🖥️
In our Barking up the Tree series, we’ll share findings from new research studies about math-related achievement & affect that Cannoli comes across as she sniffs around for Dr. Squirrel.
Sniffin’ and learnin’. A match made in dog (or squirrel) heaven. Dr. Squirrel is thrilled!
Meet the BEAM Research Lab mascots: Cannoli the Terrier and Dr. Squirrel, a developmental squirrel-scientist!
Cannoli’s mission: catch Dr. Squirrel.
Dr. Squirrel’s mission: teach Cannoli about developmental psychology through her research acorns.

A great thread here by @RachelAConlon about their new paper examining children’s career aspirations, co-authored with @colleenganley and our very own Dr. Barroso!
New article alert 🚨 w/@colleenganley & @cbg131 https://t.co/UEa2LhYR5O What do children in early elementary school want to be when they grow up? We asked 1,634 kids in FL, and they told us all kinds of things: from teachers🧑🏫& doctors🧑⚕️to musicians👩🎤 athletes 👟 & even pizza🍕
Because it affects so many aspects of education and learning, motivation is a heavily researched construct in educational psychology. @Edpsychjournal has published many articles on the topic of motivation over the years. Find some important ones below:
