Not sure why information and society seems like such a paradoxical pairing. I am slowly trying to transcend my reliance on any kind of image centered apps--ala the tyranny of the one thought image, which is equal parts vexing and equal parts provocative-- and mainly contain
May we all find peers / creative collaborators and readers / champions and critics of craft / comrades, the way Iñárritu - Del Toro - Cuarón have each other.
In the face of profit-centered industry periodicals, only solidarity and a true love for the arts will show the way.
The world’s largest democracy is cancelling trains reaching New Delhi, 7000 CRPF personnel called in, a total of 23 thousand central armed police forces deployed in delhi. Not for a foreign aggression but against its own citizens who want to protest for their rights
Nothing seems surprising anymore but shutting down the capital of the biggest democracy in the world to stop protestors got to be the biggest irony ever.
One important thing to understand is that the legal architecture around the right to protest in India remains colonial in its design, and the Supreme Court has been enforcing this colonial architecture since 1960. The Constitution did nothing to change this.
BREAKING: Many printers across Delhi are refusing to print posters etc for tomorrow's protest, citing police pressure. No trick is too dirty for the cops today.
You can detain the people. You cannot detain the movement.
The freedom struggle did not end so today’s rulers could become the new Raj.
We are not subjects, but citizens of a Republic built on resistance, sacrifice and the promise of “We, the People.”
Jantar Mantar 2.0 continues!
🚨 Now even Delhi Airport is being dragged into this crackdown.
Airlines have been asked to submit passenger manifests 48 hours in advance for all inbound flights to Delhi.
The government seems determined to make every possible move to suppress dissent.
DEMOCRACY UNDER ATTACK!
🚨 UNDECLARED EMERGENCY IN INDIA 🚨
People are being dragged off trains, forcibly picked up from their homes and taken to unknown locations. Even mosques are reportedly being asked to tell people not to join the protests. Is this what the police are meant to do in a democracy? The police are acting like BJP’s political machinery, not an independent force meant to protect citizens and uphold the law. DEMOCRACY IS UNDER ATTACK!

This month's @thecaravanindia cover is on the historic worker strikes that swept through central and northern India from February to June this year--and it received the most scant mainstream media attention. @ZaenAlkazi has this very important story https://t.co/4osE2rlBiQ
The Left has lost a true giant.

Anne Carson. “You could whisper down a well. You could write a letter and keep it in a drawer. You could inscribe a curse on a ribbon of lead and bury it in the ground to lie unread for thousands of years. The point is not to find a reader, the point is the telling itself.”
Activist Umar Khalid, who has now spent more than 6 years in prison, won the Front Line Defenders’ 2026 Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk.
The Ireland-based human rights organisation presented the award at a ceremony in Dublin on Thursday to him, in absencia.
everything that Anne Carson has written is risky & original in some (unpredictable) way. truly an unclassifiable imagination-- poet, translator, essayist, philosopher, observer of the vicissitudes of life; we'd met just once decades ago at Princeton where Anne Carson was an instructor in the Classics Dept. & I was--hypothetically--just a "visitor" for one year in Creative Writing.
not predictable that Anne would move on, & on, & on to numerous universities & I would remain at Princeton; now hoping that she is in Canada & not caught up in toxic US politics so antithetical to the humanism & freedom of the imagination required for the soul to breathe.
