2nd stop Day 2 on #CurtinAgTour learning about frost susceptibility in wheat and barley - how to recognise frosted grain, running trials to manage seasonal variability, managing stubble load and more. Thanks @ben_biddulph and @bec_jenkinson
Just spent last 2d in Freo with the awesome National Frost Agronomy team pulling together the last 3 yrs of ❄️ Agronomy data. Humbling to lead such a dedicated and passionate team. #frostyfun#GRDCFROST. Thanks guys.
#asktwitter Got some quality 🐓wheat like this? Chasing a few bulkabags of severe, moderately and unfrosted wheat and barley. PM me if your prepared to muck around and fill a dozen bulka bags for me next week. Not enough grain from my ❄️trials 😩 #frostyfun.
Considering cutting your crop for hay or leaving until harvest? Calculators are available to assist with this decision: https://t.co/sl27szCFxY @VicGovAg#vicdryseasons
Post football crop inspection. Seeing a range of damage both low and mid landscape. Flowering frost and stem frost @lingy_smith. Affected areas now visible from the road @ben_biddulph#croppy#havealook
Unfortunately we have to postpone the Dale Research Site Field Day due to the recent rain, vehicle access to the site for 4WD’s is difficult. To allow the track to dry out, we have rescheduled to the 11th of Oct. Program still stands. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Unlike the past couple of years we've had to irrigate many of our time of sowing trials to ensure good establishment.
Great result here for @DPIRDbroadacre , canola varieties sown and emerged fortnightly from the 15th March.
When the rain doesn't come to us, we bring the rain to the trial! Getting early season wheat trails established earlier in the year at Ogilvie.
Hopefully Mother Nature will step in soon.
It's been difficult seeding for farmers & researchers alike. Trying to get a decent seedbed has been a challenge in many areas that we operate, from deep ripped sand plains of the northern wheatbelt to heavier red country in the eastern wheatbelt. Hoping for rain later next week.
Raising dust alongside growers in the northern wheatbelt. #NVT trials in Mullewa and Ogilvie going in ahead of next week's forecast weather. @theGRDC@GRDCWest
