3) A big part of my job (ecologist) is being alone in the woods, often at weird times, and nature can sound pretty strange. It can be freaky even when you know what the sound is. It was the only spooky thing happening in the story which makes me doubt ghosts?
1) @RealGhostPod I was listening to Day 2 of Festive Fear and I'm going to be of those people who says "I think it was a bird." If you've never heard/felt a Ruffed Grouse display it can be pretty freaky.
2) They beat their wings in a "drum" that sounds like a heartbeat picking up speed, and it's such a deep sound that you can often feel it if you're near the bird. Check out the display audio (turn your speakers up) to get an idea. https://t.co/J8d3FHRnY8
I was a field technician who worked with @elora_grahame and these funky little birds, and I'm excited to read this paper! I'm moving back to Muskoka this week and I'm definitely giving the barrens a visit. <3
Whoop whip! Hot #nightjar news. @elora_grahame has a new paper out in @AvianAce on the importance of rock barrens for Eastern Whip-poor-will breeding habitat. Check it out!

@eyeonthefly@WesternU Pawpaw! I got to have some once and it was alright, but I've heard they don't breed true so each tree tastes a bit different. I want to try more!
@LeaGrie@FemFieldSecrets@WomenScience I did a ton of hiking through marshy terrain in these, and they've been excellent. Very comfortable and durable. Muck is a pricier brand but they've been worth it.
