We are distraught that this needs to be said, but it does.
#BlackLivesMatter. Black people shouldn't have to fear going outside, birding, or interactions with police.
We condemn white supremacy. We condemn police violence.
We mourn with the Black community.
Check out this great blog post by my two former interns. The things they hear from the public are comments I rarely if ever have to deal with. I can only imagine how demoralizing a constant barrage of comments like this can be.
Please check out and share our latest post, where two rockstar field technicians talk about their experiences with the public as they field while being women.
Humor, hope, cringe-worthy comments - this post has it all! https://t.co/h1eTMa5svX
Well written @gabbrobasalt!
*Taps mic* Is this thing on?
@AER_ESE_BES is now OPEN for submissions!!
Huge shout out to EiC @urban_sci and Erika Newton for all their hard work to build this incredible resource and journal. Please consider submitting your management-relevant science.
Finally our latest installment of #FemFieldSecrets is out with a post by @fishes_oconnor about the turmoil pregnant people go through when deciding how/if to go on a remote field adventure. Have you experienced something similar? Chime in!

@turtlegoblin We are sorry you’ve had to endure such things. It really is unacceptable and we need change to start from the top. Too many people in charge are either offenders themselves or look the other way.
'71% of women experienced harassment in the field.' Are you alone out here? Your boyfriend lets you work here? How do you style your hair? (a very senior team member during a work meal). Have you f****d her yet? (to a colleague). Just a few of my personal favourites. #LikeAGirl
This story still makes me kinda sick to my stomach to retell, but here is my most memorable experience with toxic masculinity in the field. #FemFieldSecrets
Insightful post from @DocHPJones on toxic masculinity in the field. I especially like #3 about training field crews: "Training isn’t just about how to take the data, it’s also about how to be a good field citizen."

An important post to read and think about when training field teams. Orientation often focuseson traditional field safety with research teams, but #3 in the list here is also key: being clear what behaviors are unacceptable because they are also a threat to someone's safety.
