Thursday thought: What if we only had a certain amount of words we could write/speak each day? How would you change your habits?
I’m thinking less texting, fewer phone calls, and no social media. Maybe I should do that anyway...
Instead of tackling my inbox this AM I made a list of freelance perks: adventure Fridays (for skiing), quarterly retreats, taco Thursdays, 8+ weeks off, flex hours, etc. Still feeling unmotivated, I added “report to NO ONE” and felt much better. What perks do you give yourself?
@CAStinchcombe I had to give up puzzles last April because I was staying up too late working on them. Maybe I’m ready to give them another shot with an imposed bedtime...
@kat_boogaard I’ve subcontracted for skills I don’t have (or don’t have time or mental energy for) including web design, those very funny/catchy tag lines that give me anxiety, and quick turn AP style edits. Always for work on the marketing side, never for journalism so far.
@wudanyan Same here. Taking Mon + Fri off to really ease in... Thinking I need to rewire my brain (and calendar) so that Fridays off are simply called Fridays.
"In all seriousness, people that like to whine about bad conditions just don't last here. They hang up their skis and take up tennis or something. The ones that are left have a certain saltiness.”

This little reflection came to me on a recent bike ride—the first time I've needed a sweatshirt in months. Rather than leave the words to disappear into my iPhone notes forever, I'm putting them here. Enjoy!

I've spent 2020 writing and editing stories. I've delved into the worlds of design, marketing, self improvement, private equity, and company culture. I've encouraged others to publish their thoughts, but I haven't written a single essay of my own.
