Entirely optional refurb to the personal flat: have others pay.
Find yourself in a flat with dangerous cladding and other hazards caused by developers cutting corners: tough, you pay, even if it bankrupts you.
This shows scale of problem. The answer as @LiamSpender keeps saying is political. I've been following this since Grenfell. With @martinboydlkp and others we saw then it was a problem. It got way worse. WHY STILL NO FIX? https://t.co/yozWrOz19e
@team_greenhalgh's argument is weak. Freeholders are treating leaseholders as their corporate piggy banks. One only needs to look at Galliard and Ballymore, who built defective buildings but immediately turned to leaseholders to pay for the costs of their own mistakes.
FT Article (£) (https://t.co/rr6UYISbTs) on cladding and how "everyone just seems to absolve everyone else" Which is why we need an industry levy for the full cost as @LKPleasehold has proposed, not limited to 13% of the bill as government proposes #EndOurCladdingScandal
54/ @libdemdaisy makes fair point that #FireSafetyBill in unamended form will be a disaster greater than EWS-1. It will require both internal and external assessment of fire safety. It will be a dream come true for freeholders and managing agents looking for fees
36/ @hilarybennmp says that govt's current funding offer is confused. Says gov't offering money for cladding but not internal fire safety defects. Says that there is no guarantee that buildings can be declared safe if cladding works are completed but internal works left undone.
21/ @LabourSJ says that people are going bankrupt from costs. Notes that thousands of leaseholders write every time there is a debate hoping that government will do the right thing by leaseholders. Says it is sad that the gov't is still not taking this issue seriously.
Fire Safety Bill - Party loyalty is one thing - supporting a just cause can be another conflicting one. C’mon Conservative MPs show you put justice and people first. #EndOurCladdingScandal
Simply disgusting. @RobertJenrick@team_greenhalgh this is why can industry can afford levies. At the bare minimum, no one should be profiting from this scandal and leaseholders’ & taxpayers’ expense (although let’s be honest, they’re the same people) #endourcladdingscandal
