Every Kenyan parent considering their children's higher education needs to know this:

If your child pursues higher education in a different country, Kenya will never stop punishing your child for it. Kenya will never allow your child to work in the area of their training. I've seen someone with a MA in Kiswahili from University of Dar, no less, being told she can never get a TSC number. That's Kenya.

So yes, you'll hear civil servants praising foreign education as "world class," and harassing Kenyan universities to uphold the standards of Oxford, but they will punish you for daring to go there yourselves and get that education. You're a nobody, you're just a native. You're not supposed to have ambitions beyond what DO John Ainsworth imagined for you. The way the settlers couldn't stand the idea of Africans going to school, is the same way civil servants see education in Kenya. They decide what is good for you. If bad imitations of Norwegian education are what they think you need, that's exactly what you'll get.

So yes, they are going to defund Kenyan public universities and tell you to go to Str-thmore instead, but dare you take that seriously and seek education in TZ, Rwanda or Uganda, let alone Europe or America. You will return to grief and lamentation. Doors will be shut, one after another. You will come back with a PhD in engineering and the best you can do is motivational speaking.

This is not different from colonial days. In "Not yet Uhuru," Jaramogi says that British colonial officers used to arrest Kenyans at the port and jail them if they dared to pursue scholarships in Eastern Europe. Meanwhile the settlers were fighting tooth and nail for Royal Technical College to remain a TVET and never become a university, let alone one for Africans to attend.

But I'm saying higher education abroad: even if you try here, you will get grief. Matiang'i was particularly vicious about it. He said that if you don't get a C+ in KCSE, you should never, ever, see a university classroom, even if you do 10 diplomas and have work experience. He threatened to withdraw the degrees of those who took the long route.

Our education problem isn't curriculum. It's not the job market. It's British snobbery and class consciousness. It's hostility to knowledge. Our politicians and civil servants are steeped in the British "gentleman" model of public education, which was brought here. And that model hates both skills and knowledge. Period.

That mindset prefers fantasies like "the advantages and disadvantages of British colonialism in Africa." And this anti-intellectualism makes going to school even more desirable because the more we are denied education, the more we sacrifice in our savings and resources to get it. Human beings cannot live without understanding their environment. But for seeking that knowledge, you will be punished. Severely. @scherargei will write a bill reducing medical workers to hospital butlers and elevating police officers to medical practitioners.

Aki, we need fast responses to emergencies. Most people die juu ya kukosa kupelekwa hosi on time. The government needs to do better and put in place a reliable emergency response system where ambulances can respond immediately without demanding payment first. Lives are being lost because of delays that can be prevented. We need a faster, more accessible and well-coordinated emergency response system in this country.

Survey warns senior-school dropout could undermine CBE rollout

A new survey has warned that Kenya’s transition to senior school under Competency Based Education could face serious challenges because a significant number of learners may fail to proceed to Grade 10.

The Usawa Agenda survey found that about 3.5 per cent of Grade 9 learners could drop out before joining senior school.

Financial hardship, poor parental involvement, unstable home environments, substance abuse, early pregnancies and pressure to begin earning income were identified among the major causes.

The findings raise concern that thousands of learners could disappear from the education system during the CBE transition without targeted support.

Have you noted how both Safaricom PLC and Airtel Kenya have simultaneously downgraded their data offer packages.

Airtel watch was a little generous has reduced the ksh.1500 SMARTA package from 3GB daily to a 32GB package which is loaded once in your line.

They have also reduced the hourly packages from 1gb for ksh.15 to a mere 250mbs for ksh.15 which is being swallowed in a jiffy.

Now wait .. You thought you'd escape to WIFI which offers unlimited data for monthly packages?

Once this bill is signed into law, it's going to take the country years back and roll back the success and milestones in affordable data , killing tens of thousands of jobs in the tech sector.

Keitany's bill proposes far reaching measures that are going to make WIFI data expensive..

✅ Introduction of internet metre number to bill every subscriber.
✅ There will be no unlimited data. You'll pay as per your consumption. They say you pay power or water.
✅ Monitoring of internet usage by ISPs

The above Draconian measures points to a plan to curtail access to information to the public through the internet.

Ruto in his haste to clamp down on the internet will affect:

✅ Businesses that used internet by increasing the cost of doing business.
✅ Schools that offer online studies will increase the cost of courses.
✅ Most businesses will fire staff to cut down on cost so as to survive.
✅ Communication will be affected because the cost of data will be out of reach affecting decisions and the economy.
✅ Access to information will be affected to a large portion of population who will not be able to to buy data.

All this is being done to clamp down on access to information as we go to an election year.

Ruto is fearing another Genz outrage which is fueled by information through social media. He thinks that by making data costly, majority of Kenyans including young people won't be a able to access information.

The Looting regime is taking us back to stone age , where we will be communicating through smoke and beating of drums.
