Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.

The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Trump just fired all 24 members of the National Science Board. Every single one. By email. No warning. No reason given. The board has existed since 1950.

The National Science Board is the independent body that oversees the National Science Foundation, the agency that distributes $9 billion in research grants every year.

Its members are scientists and engineers from universities and industry. They serve six-year staggered terms specifically so they cross presidential administrations and stay independent of whoever is in power.

On Friday, every single one of them got the same boilerplate email from Mary Sprowls of the Presidential Personnel Office: "On behalf of President Donald J Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the National Science Board is terminated, effective immediately. Thank you for your service."

That's it. That's the whole letter. For 76 years of institutional independence.

The NSF funds the basic science behind MRIs. Cellphones. LASIK eye surgery. GPS. The internet itself. The Antarctic research stations. The deep-space telescopes. The research vessels mapping the ocean floor. Every breakthrough that made America the world's leader in science for the better part of a century traces back through grants this agency made and this board approved.

The board chair, Victor McCrary, was actively advising Congress on Trump's proposed 55% cut to NSF's budget. The board was helping fight back. So Trump fired the board.

Marvi Matos Rodriguez, one of the fired members, told reporters she had been reviewing an 80-page report as part of her board duties just days before being terminated.

Keivan Stassun, a physicist at Vanderbilt, said NSF's leadership had already stopped responding to board oversight requests months ago. "We would ask them, 'Are you following board governance directives?' And their answer would be, in effect, 'We don't listen to you anymore.'"

Now there's no board to answer to.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, the top Democrat on the House Science Committee, called it "the latest stupid move made by a president who continues to harm science and American innovation. Will the president fill the NSB with MAGA loyalists who won't stand up to him as he hands over our leadership in science to our adversaries?"

That's the actual question.

Because while Trump is firing American scientists, China is building research universities at a rate we cannot match. The CDC just buried a study showing vaccines work.

RFK Jr. runs HHS. The EPA is gutted. The Forest Service is being broken. Half of American children are breathing dangerous air. And now the people who decide what gets researched in the United States have all been fired by email on a Friday afternoon.

"My qualm is the name games you play. Do you think you can simply legitimize actions by denoting terminology to suit your interest? This you did."

"In the same way, you and Benjamin Netanyahu undermine the true meaning of justice through continued acts of unconscionable war crimes, all in the name of 'self-defense,'" Father DeMarzo continued. "But with the Lord, there will be no altering of words and their meaning; all that will be left is the truth of what really happened."

"You call the Holy Father weak because he calls for peace? What is weak is bombing children in Gaza in the name of national interest," he wrote "What is weak is saying this is God’s country, yet by your actions you act as an enemy of the cross."

Father DeMarzo went on to question Trump's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly Operation Warp Speed and the vaccines. He said that "questions and debates" remain about the vaccines and while we don't agree with that assessment, it was Trump who brought up COVID protocols during his attack on Leo. And, as DeMarzo pointed out, Trump was president when COVID hit.

"Inspired by Christian charity, I implore you, repent," the priest wrote. "We are Christ first, not MAGA first. Our first allegiance is to God and His Kingdom. Are you God first or MAGA first? If God first, why do some of your actions betray that truth? If you come after the Church and the Holy Father @Pontifex_de, don’t think I’ll be silent. I only fear God."

BREAKING: Trump is dealt a massive political black eye as a top United Nations panel condemns him for his relentless hate speech and deeply cruel immigration policies.

"The Committee was deeply disturbed by the growing use of derogatory and dehumanizing language, and the dissemination of negative and harmful stereotypes targeting migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers," wrote the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a group of 18 independent experts.

They stated that hate speech from leaders like Trump, in tandem with his brutal immigrations crackdowns around places like schools and churches, has led to "grave human rights violations.” This has long been apparent to the American people, who have been forced to watch as masked federal thugs flood our streets, terrorizing and murdering people at will.

The panel further stated that leaders like Trump have pushed stereotypes about migrants, refugees and asylum seekers (which Trump regularly does to excite his racist MAGA base) by "portraying them as criminals or as a burden.” Such language, the panel concluded, leads to discrimination and even hate crimes.

They also specifically called out Trump's ICE and Customs and Border Protection for implementing discriminatory policies like racial profiling and "random" identity checks to target people of color.

The panel further wrote that they are "deeply concerned" about the skyrocketing number of detainees imprisoned in detention facilities — pointing out that it spiked from 40,000 in 2024 to 73,000 in 2026.

The panel experts are also “alarmed by the death of detained refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants in migration detention facilities, particularly the deaths of at least 29 migrants in 2025 and six in January 2026.”

They urged the White House to begin complying with the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
