@sciencebase @ehbpollard @wildlifebcn@MatthewPHayes Wow that’s quite a dramatic difference isn’t it. Our weekly transects also nothing like last year (although, thankfully not quite as dire as on your visit).
Butterfly survey at Trumpington Meadows last Friday - an amazing 989 individuals of 18 sp, & a guided walk yesterday saw an additional 5 species incl 2nd brood Small Blues, White-letter & Purple Hairstreak. Big thanks to survey volunteers @ehbpollard @wildlifebcn@MatthewPHayes
@aknights10@MagogDown@bc_cambs_essex Low numbers across the board at Trumpington Meadows compared to last year, although our transect late last week not dissimilar numbers/species to @MagogDown - fewer skippers, no blues yet - did find plenty of small blue caterpillars 2 weeks ago, hopefully they’ll emerge soon
@maxando True! What drew my attention to the ragwort was a red admiral and several gatekeepers feeding - they all flew off but the WLH remained for a photo op
Spend ages looking for White-letter Hairstreaks in the nicer areas of Trumpington Meadows and then my first of the year turns up next to the car park of the office @bc_cambs_essex@wildlifebcn
