This to me is what being evidence informed means. You can’t realistically keep up with all the latest studies - or the original research - but through good PD and general reading you can build a strong model to guide your thinking. https://t.co/HfWUi3JkOp
Girl wanted the toilet in my maths lesson today, in the middle of me modelling what to do. I asked ‘can you wait 2 mins’ she said no.
So I let her go, and did a few questions with her when she got back and made sure she understood.
It’s not hard 🤷🏻♀️

@Michael_S_Green@suttontrust I’m also interested in the next category up: not eligible for PP: homeowners, 1-2 incomes but stuck on the lower threshold, no pay rise, not eligible for housing support because of having a mortgage…. Yet with cost of living increases, rises in child care etc are sunk. No help

***ACTIVE OBSERVATION***
Active observation is one of our core techniques that we use in the classroom to support responsive teaching.
Our teaching assistants also do active observation using the following sheet using the assess, plan, do, review cycle.

CHECK FOR STUDENT UNDERSTANDING! The latest edition of ⚗️ DistillED unpacks Rosenshine’s 6th Principle of Instruction: Check for Student Understanding.
ROSENSHINE: “The more effective teachers frequently checked to see if all the students were learning the new material… In contrast, the less effective teachers simply asked, ‘Are there any questions?”
This post includes a free NEW guide and handy planning resource! Download them here:

This diagram originally from @C_Hendrick and @HughesHaili illustrates explicit instruction as an interactive process — one that actively involves ALL students through continuous checks for understanding. Build in frequent CfU opportunities, vary the strategies and designing a series of high-impact questions! ✅

@LeeBraganza I was just talking about this today. Those of us with 2 full time working parents had the children in nursery for long hours, up to 5 days a week. ‘Slow start’, ‘transition days’ are more weird to our children as they get excited to start school but don’t get to go for full days
