LINO CAYETANO URGES OWN FAMILY TO 'LET GO OF POWER' IN SUPPORT OF SNAP ELECTION CALL

Former Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano on Sunday urged his own family to "let go of power" as a gesture of sincerity, expressing full support for his brother, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano's call for all top government officials to resign and pave the way for a snap election.

"I support this proposal. I agree with my brother Alan and ask that we start with ourselves. Give up power. And this movement for real transformation will be a legacy our Father will be truly proud of," Lino said in a social media post.

He went further by proposing that no member of the Cayetano family should seek national or local positions in the 2028 elections.

"I will support further that no Cayetano should run in 2028. Lahat tayo," he said. "Let go of power — then people will believe."

Lino said the act of stepping aside would prove that the proposal is not a political gimmick but a sincere attempt to address the public's growing frustration.

"For the status quo to step down may be the only way to give our country a chance — baka ito lang pag asa natin sa tunay na pagbabago," he said.

He added that the next generation of Filipinos, from the private sector to the youth, is "ready to lead" if given the opportunity.

The former mayor's statement came after his brother, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, suggested a "national reset" through a snap election in which no incumbent from the President down to Congress would be allowed to run again.

"If we truly serve the people, then we should be willing to sacrifice our posts for the sake of rebuilding their trust," the senator said.
