🇵🇰 At least 14 infants were killed when a fire broke out in the mother and child health ward of Pakistan’s state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Health Minister Mustafa Kamal attributed the blaze to an air conditioner explosion that spread quickly amid ample oxygen in the ward.

Grieving parents claimed that the ward lacked proper fire exits, that doctors and nurses were absent at the time of the fire, and that bodies were removed “in boxes” without allowing families to view them.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif suspended his health secretary and ordered an investigation into the incident.
